Just face it lads...we are terrible at conducting business in the transfer window and cannot compete financially with teams around us.

Agreed. It's never any major surprise. Keeping all the core players of the current squad together and selling and buying peripheral squad players was all I was realistically hoping for. I dont thinks that's too high a bar even for Everton to get over. Maybe it will pan out like that. You never know.

don't confuse pessimism with realism... you're whinging before the first ball has been kicked. wait and see what happens, all we really need to do is weather the storm before 3 of our most important players come back. also lets not forget there are still 3 weeks left in the transfer window.

just a quick quote....

Blues chairman Bill Kenwright, manager David Moyes and chief executive Robert Elstone are all focussed on adding to the players who finished fifth in the Barclays Premier League last season and contested the FA Cup final.

Mr Elstone explained that improving the squad was Everton's key objective this summer.

"There is an awful lot of work going on," he told evertonTV. "We are talking to a number of players and a number of Clubs. The chairman is in constant dialogue with the manager and where I need to get involved, I am doing that.

"We absolutely recognise the need to strengthen - we are fiercely ambitious and if that is the case then you need to go one step further than fifth place and one step further than appearing in an FA Cup final.

"To do that we know we need to bring talent in and we are not sitting on our hands in any way.

"We are determined to strengthen the squad and take to the field in 2009/10 with a better squad than 2008/09 and that is the core strategy of the football Club."

liars or just totally incompetent ?

not incompetent, just working within severe financial parameters. we don't pay silly money on players or wages which means we have to be more selective over our targets. I thought that was obvious.

I would expect a couple more players..maybe a loaner or two as well no more than that though.

While BK is here there simply wont be the money for us to spend big and given the current fincial climate i think i'd sooner stick with the devil we know than someone come in and wreck what progress we've made.

Bottom line is, we need to bring in at least a couple of new faces, even if they're just going to be squad members. Moyes knows this, that's why he's been pulling his hair out.

What I can't figure is, who will they be and are we anywhere near getting them.

CB : Mail is now saying that the Senderos deal is off. Apparently we've been linked with Steven Taylor, but that's a non-starter IMO.

FB : doesn't seem to be anyone on the horizon.

MID : The O'Neil link has been squashed by Southgate. Elm doesn't seem very interested in us (or we in him). There's been no confirmation that we're interested in Obinna.

I never thought I'd be upset that we're not signing O'Neil
