If victor wants a player to model himself on, he could do worse than aim for a les ferdinand type.

he needs confidence, and the knowledge that when he challenges he is allowed to give someone a good hiding in the process.

Criticise the lad when he does [Poor language removed] all eh?

Last night he lead the line well and was behind most of our first half threat - when we were the better side. The second half, when The [Poor language removed] were (generally) the better side his contribution was more limited but he gave a good stint last night, put pressure on their back four (including the small things people overlook like chasing hard). His persistent (including perhaps a shove on the defender nearly created a goal - one of our few 2nd half threats before the goal) was admirable as Everton were more on the backfoot by this time.

You all noticed Leighton Baines for the goal line block (Kute's shot) and so on and Jags etc.

Give the lad a break. He had a good game for me.

Agreed, he did have one of his better games. Just pisses me off when he goes down easily and then sits on his arse with his arms out whineing to the ref.

Possibly his best performance in a blue shirt, and he gets stick for it (n)

He was a threat all game, and held the ball up well and brought players into the game. Not much you could ask other than a goal obviously.

Apropos of nothing: I learnt yesterday from Chinese coverage that Anichebe is pronounced Anjibay.

Baines is Bainson
Hibbert is Seebird
Arteta is Archichee

I agree with Evertonized.

If there was a weak link in the side last night then it was Anichebe. Can't believe he still seems as inexperienced as he was when he first broke into the first team. I thought he made the step up last season... so what has happened??

That sums it up for me. He played a good game but it's embarrassing the way he goes down and looks for a call with the slightest contact.

The way I saw his run into the box and the penalty appeal was that there was more of a case for calling a foul on Anichebe when he won the ball then there was for calling a penalty.

The Turkish commentator who used to do EPL games when they were free to air always insisted that we had a young striker called Woggun. Funnily though he also used the English pronunciation of Osman (OZman) instead of the Turkish OSman.
