Andy Gray - Everton legend?

Regarding Gray's media work, I think he ended up being a bit of a bellend, to be honest. Not really sure he ever really favoured us during his media work, despite his affinity to us while he was playing here.

I think what happened in 1997 when Kendall came back for the third time has clouded people's judgment on Andy Gray, and this was cemented further by his reaction to Stevie G's goal v Olympiakos.

As Khakelan said earlier, I always refuse to watch the RS on TV (can't think of anything worse!!), but have been made aware of his response to that goal. I don't agree with it, but as others have said, he's not an Evertonian so is entitled to celebrate an goal by any team, in any way he likes. However, I must admit he went down in my estimations after it.

Doesn't alter his contribution to us as a player though. Was an absolute star!

He's the pundit for all premier league games out here on BeIN sports. He talks a lot of sense, and his Evertonian history does come out a lot when him and Reid are both on the show. He's before my time, but I definitely consider him a legend.

He also puts Souness in his place whenever that 'tard starts spouting rubbish about the Kopites

To be a legend I think you have to have success and be associated with a club for a long time. Neville Southall, Brian Labone, Howard Kendall are legends. Andy Gray would not, in my eyes, be classed as an Everton legend. In fact, I associate him more with the Midlands.

He's without question an Everton legend and that phrase is used lightly these days. He believed in us and along with Peter Reid lifted that team in their early days when they needed belief. He wore that shirt with immense pride and would have dived head first through walls for the club and its supporters. I was gutted when he left, it was too soon.

But he was that type of player, he ran through walls for Villa, and Wolves also. With someone like Kendall or Labone, you just knew they would not be as good for another team. Gray was like Lineker, did his best everywhere, scored goals everywhere.

Kendall got it spot on - he got rid of Andy at the right time as his knees were shattered he did not achieve much after leaving evidently HK omitted him from most training sessions as after a game he had to have an ice bath on his knees, Andy Gray was a great asset to us playing in a great team that won us trophies - he also made Graham Sharp a wiser centre forward an Everton great by all means!
I do not give a thought of what he does now in his TV work I just remember his performances , and influence on our trophy years in the 1980's to me they were all greats!

He isnt a legend at the club because he was only here 2 years was he not?

what he is is an iconic player from our most succesful era. completely different thing.

His contribution has been overshadowed by his post Everton media work: using the club to bump a pay rise from Sky back in 1998, and then last season trying to unseat our manager.

He's a wrong un.

What a load of garbage not everything in our history revolves around Roberto.
We were brilliant in the eighties and he was part of our greatest time in history enjoy the success we had

He was a player that contributed a good few goals for a season and a bit. He deserves credot for that. That credit was totally wiped out when he used Everton's managerial vacancy in 1998 to bump his own wage demands with Sky. Then he went into deficit by joining in with some frenzied mob attack on our current manager when he was struggling this season.

You can sugar coat his overall impact if you like, I'll just stick to weighing up all the facts - warts and all.

He was a great player in a great team for us. Not sure about Legend. Unless you say they all where because of the success. As a pundit i was not too keen tbh.

He questioned the manager this season as did a lot of fans and people in the media, and being a pundit I don't have a problem with that.
Nobody really knows if he was actually offered the job as manager and what really was said behind closed doors but I suppose you can dress things up to suit if you don't like somebody.
At the end of the day we are lucky to have lived through our greatest ever time supporting everton and Andy Gray was a big part of that.
You can pick holes and knock the man but I am so thankfull to have been a season ticket holder during them times and embrace everything about it
