So the DroidDream virus for Android phones is probably well-known by now, but here's the link to the story anyway.

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/857573-...phones-as-apps-deleted-without-user-knowledge

But it's this bit that surprised me:

Android software is used worldwide by phone manufacturers such as Samsung and HTC. Nearly 33million handsets were shipped out of factories in the fourth quarter of last year, putting them ahead of Nokia’s rival Symbian and more than double the number of Apple iPhones.

I really didn't think that would be the case!

Apart from accessing personal data, it could have been used to send spam texts or call premium rate numbers – and owners would only have known when they were sent their phone bill.

It could also be used to lure young children to a remote shed in the middle of the forest and make them sing Lady Gaga songs.

Scaremongering pish.

Thats what happens when you let the carriers develop the OS. Wheras Apple control, and develop their own.

Google/Android developers let the SDK to carriers/manufacturers do it. Personally, i think whilst it's good to have an open 'ecosystem' its flooding the market with substandard handsets trying a scattergun approach to apples dominance and a shocking app system, which proves my point above.

Worrying that as apple are seen as a controlling, and the such - its google who have a kill switch in their software.

I've been looking up those apads, they have wifi, run chrome and can also run word, excel and some other windows stuff, they are full hd with hdmi output.

Using the Google Android OS it is capable of accessesing the internet and playing high definition 1080P video at fast speeds. With its self-contained and compact design.
These tablets run Andorid 2.1 OS and can run windows CE. You can run Windows CE by just flashing the firmware. We provide on going support for all your technical requirements.
The ZT-180 sports a 1Ghz processor (ARM 11 which is much faster than Rockchip), 256MB RAM, Nandflash drive 2GB (2GB (expandable to 16 with SD card slot Micro SD Card), 3G USB modem support and Wifi 802.11b/g capability. £120 it went for, in the uk as well so no tax on it.

I admit I don't know much about it, but I honestly can't say my HTC is either substandard or has a shocking app system. The complete opposite, actually.

I think comparisons to Windoes and Linux is apt actually.

That is a big pile of crap. Save your money for a decent tablet running Android.

First reason....it has a resistive touchscreen. Which means it will be very inaccurate and not support multitouch. Secondly, if you have ever heard about fragmentation, it will be compounded by this tablet. Android 2.1 is old now, and app developers aren't gonna touch it for a 10" tablet.

Just wait and get a decent spec tablet running 2.2 or even better......Honeycomb. That tab is a waste of 120 quid.

It is resistive Reidy. That is how they are keeping the cost down. Resistive panels are cheap as hell and have really bad response issues compared to capacitive panels. Also, you are not wanting a mobile version of Android really (2.0-2.3) as Google offer no support for tabs. You want to wait for Android 3.0 which includes tablet support.
