Just released in SZ (China). New iPad clones run Android 2.2 / Windows 7 with "decent" hardware equal to iPad, supporting Flash 10.1 and multitasking.

8" Android 2.2 aPad - 1GHz Cortex A8 Processor - 512MB DDR2

10.1" Windows 7 ePad - 1.66GHz Atom N455 - 2GB DDR3 - 32GB SSD

Any reviews, discussion on those? I have laid my money down and waiting for the courier to show up. Been burnt before and not holding my breath, but as an ebook reader and wifi surfer?

Isn't flash a bit of a dump on these? It's currently ruining the Galaxy tab.

It may be an attempt at spam to begin the topic, but this is something I wrestled with in choosing the wifes present.

For a decent Windows 7 tablet it costs way to much, more like $800 to get one with decent speed, as the atom based tabs are far too slow to run it with the touch interface.

Then the android tablets. Different kettle of fish here, as Google is offering zero in the way of support for tablet based android systems. Companies like Samsung and LG can skin Android to make it look nice, but they can't skin the apps, which look like ass when scaled to 7". Fragmentation is a bigger issue on an Android tablet than the different phone sizes. And Bryan is right about Flash, it is wrecking the experience on these tablets. The UI's are sluggish, the accuracy is not there. Then when you look at the cheap tablets, they are chintzy, have bad viewing angles and are just a sub-standard product.

So, as much as it pains me to say this, the iPad is the best option on the market right now, it is snappy, has a UI that works, a well developed app store and now multi-taking to boot. It is also the best value for money right now. So I got her a refurbished 16Gb WiFi iPad (NOOOO!!!! Tell me it isn't so!!!!).

So what I need is the Android based tablet guys to step it up, so I can trade in my Apple product and get a proper tablet!! We can't have Apple stay at #1 can we.

Until google employ Jonathan Ive, it's just a bunch of geeks with Linux on their phones & tablets

Just been to a house and the 'kid' there had a 2.2 tablet.

I put 'kid' because although only 12 the lad could deffo be labelled BOFFIN, goes to an online school and by all accounts is doing a degree course, and already works as a web developer. As soon as I was talking to him I realised that the lad knew what he was on about (wanted an Alienware pc, and built his own for about £350).

Anyhow, I digress, I immediately asked him about the Tablet, he only got it this morning and in the great childhood trad. was trying to break it/ find shiz it couldn't do, he said it was better than the ipad on a great many things and was made up with it.

Here's the clincher though, the thing that makes you think 'useless tat / paperweight' and made him wonder if he was getting an electronic duck egg

£49.99 free postage, uk seller, arrived in 2 days.

now that is cheaper than a photo frame from Argos ffs. and the kid really did seem to know his shiz and tech.

So on the recommendation of a 12 y.o. hacker that prob hasn't got any peabs yet, I tghink I'm gonna have to have one.

No, Android 2.2 is not designed for tablets - it is a phone OS FFS!!!! I don't care about price, that is a crappy deal. You need a tablet running Honeycomb (android 3.X). Another thing, the tablet is 50 quid for a reason.....it's sh*te!!!

so you are speaking on good authority having seen one and used it are you ?

or just based on price and having used top end stuff at work, which has made you only want that at home.

Having seen it I can confirm that it is far from ****e.

The cheap price comes from a small resistive screen (doesnt support multi touch gestures like zoom) and the relatively small amount of memory. Also a 300kpixel resolution in the camera is only 640x480. But should be good for random surf.

Edit: And I think the battery could have more capacity.
