To be fair he was probably brought on to do just that, and take free kicks/set pieces in case they won any. I'm sure he just shrugged his shoulders and went and did what he was told.

Of course... the problem was his teammates stopped creating (which they had done plenty of in the first 85 minutes) and waited for him to put the ball in the box. It was a bit Messi for Argentina like, too much deference.
