They didn't reach the quarter finals and had just lost in the first leg of the round of 16 away at Napoli 3-1, although it looked as if they were headed out, under new temporary manager Matteo they did manage to remarkably turn it all around with a 4-1 home success including late goals when all seemed lost.

The team did then go from strength to strength in the champions league and after seeing off Benfica in the quarters, beat Barca in the semis and Bayern on their own ground in the final (penalty shoot out)

13/14 season they lost by the same score away from home in the CL Qf mate, won the home leg 2-0 - against PSG - manager was Mourinho.

so that is twice in the space of three years they turned around a CL tie when they lost the away leg 3-1.

Your making it sound like a 3-1 away result is almost insurmountable - when frankly it's not and is turned around pretty much every season by one team or another in that competition.

a 3-1 away loss in a knock-out round in the CL isn't a lost cause mate, it's actually not that bad a disastrous result in context, bringing a team back to Stamford bridge with you having an away goal for Chelsea is far far from insurmountable

so badly wrong - they where through the group stage with 6 wins on the bounce in the El and where 7th - 4 points behind that seasons league winners in City. Hardly a disastrous position was it?

AVB would be a fantastic option, especially considering the difficulties we are having.

People forget he is 40 and very much part of an outstanding group of emerging coaches from Portugal. While he's the most left field one his achievements are underrated on the back of struggling at Chelsea when he was 34.

His win record at Porto is 85%. This is incredible. Fergusan here was 63%. Mourinho in his first spell at Chelsea 67%. Pep at Bayern and Barca 72/75. Even Rodgers in one team Scotland is 75% (which is good considering he predecessor was mid 60s). It's an incredible score really.

At Spurs his win ratio is in and around Pochetino (slightly better in fact) and many Spurs fans say he started what Pochetino continued. The fans didn't accept him because he replaced Redknap who had significant support within the media and he had come from Chelsea. If Benitez came here he'd face the same, hostility before he began.

Given his age and approach, I think he could be a really good selection.

Not for me at all.

I can remember the animosity within the squad at Spurs during his time, and some of stories around his arrogance & approach to man management is ala Koeman.

I've got a few Spurs friends, who couldn't wait to get rid.

Plays a high defensive line which is something we must do...when we have the players to do it.

Sick of sitting so deep all the time.

I think his stats are incredible really and hes only 40 years old...must have learnt a heck of a lot.

can we have a percentage-o-metre please
