How else does one play 4-4-2

He's probably taking it easy because he doesn't want another serious injury. He or the rest of us view this as a farce but also a bit pf a pre-season, he wasnt even back to 100% before lock down, but do we remember how much worse our midfield was before he came back?

He's playing centre mid in a 4-4-2. He is a centre mid. We can't say that it isn't his preferred position. We are clutching at straws to say he isn't "playing in an ideal midfield system for him"
He could have been playing right back, it's still no excuse to have people just run past you and for giving the ball away, over hitting passes, etc. The position thing is such an excuse for generally just average players. Good players can adapt.

Well a lot of the time he’s played one out and out wide player, who’s more attack minded and more of a midfielder on the other side.

Yes I mean at previous clubs. And we don’t have many options at the moment. I’m talking long term I’m not sure he will play 2 out and out wingers

He's doing just fine.... all things considered.

Are people forgetting that he’s not long back from a career threatening injury? He’s got talent. He’s not the fastest but on the ball he’s excellent.
