I think Son's reputation in the league is carrying weight with some people. He is a well liked guy, plays for the team and has a total of 6 cards in total in 139 PL appearances. With that being said, the tackles was cynical to say the least, there was clear intent to make sure Gomes was obstructed in some way from the tackle, he went up studs high after the ball has been cleared, and the injury to Gomes is the aftermath he has to deal with. His reaction after the fact was justified, when he realized what his actions did, but that does not take away from the fact that he is the cause of the injury to Gomes. I have always been taught to own my mistakes, and in this case Son must live with his actions. Zero sympathy.

Nah it obviously wasn’t on its own, but if he hadn’t committed the cynical foul then Gomes never would have clattered Aurier. His deliberate foul caused the injury, it was certainly no accident.

Went after the man and made no attempt to play the ball. It caused a serious ankle break. I'm not sure how it is anything other than red tbh.

If you make zero attempt to play the ball and end up injuring someone then you deserve little sympathy. Why not just pull his shirt if you're looking to take a cynical booking? It was nasty.
