We had the same with Arteta and Pienaar when on on loan. Both struggled with game time at their clubs and where surplus,came to Everton and found an environment where they could play and progress their game. Gomes isn't daft he knows he's well liked and wanted at the club and will push his agent to get it done .

Gomes seems to have found the right place, ability aside he could go to a bigger club and not fit in so well, he seems at home here, that has to count for a lot, right place at the right time is Everton for Gomes

Definitely some inconsistency issues but get them ironed out and we've got our best midfielder since Arteta.

Did he have a pre season at all? Sure he was injured when he arrived. Fitness issues would be most obvious during xmas new year period so maybe that accounts for his lack of form then. Hes only going to get better, we need to get him in, same with zouma but we are talking 60mill minimum just to stand still.

Definitely see your "standing still* shout but these guys will get better so they're more of an investment. Honestly think we'll ship out a hell of a lot players this summer. Also fresh blood like Onyekuru and a Vlasic with game time and in the new system will be a beneficial.

That's the thing mate, just because he says he's happy here doesn't mean he's a cert to sign for us, as you say, he could be leaving his options open to see if any offers come in from any Champions league clubs, or any other top clubs.

I agree, but after a bad time at Barca, he might think being happy at work and being first choice is more important to him? But I don't expect him to stay if one of the big boys comes in for him.
Until we can offer Champions league we are always at a disadvantage.

Won't blame him at all if he decides against joining us. He'll have bigger and better clubs after him. Hopefully our wages and his feeling of being settled here is enough to get it over the line. But he could be very tempted by a London team or somewhere nice and sunny on the continent.

I think it's a very similar situation as Digne. Chewed up and spat out by a big juggernaut machine, brought into somewhere where he feels appreciated.

Gomes for me. He's a Rolls Royce in the middle of the park which is arguably more difficult to find than a CB.
