It means nothing; could easily be a very good player who just didn't acclimatise to a certain team. Or he could be utter crap for us too - we just don't know yet.

Exactly this. He went on record as saying Ronaldo is better than Messi. He never had a chance with the fans (or his team mates) after that. He's as popular in Barcelona as Nick Barnby is in L4

I can’t make up my mind what I want out of him. If he stars for us we get 2/3 rds of a season out of him and off he goes back to Barca. If he does ok ish but not brilliant we could get to buy him at a knock down price , with the usual Barca buy back clause, and then he hits his stride in his second season .

There will definitely not be a buyback clause if we were looking to sign him.
