Rook

Player Valuation: £80m
Given that we are talking about Bradley and given that we need a rt. wing and Fulham players will up for sale here is my opinion of them (feel free to add or tell me I don't know what the f(*& I'm talking about):

Here's my opinion of the American outfielders:

Most Talented: Landon Donovan S, CM Age 26: - I don't think there are 10 footballers in the world who have the talent he does. No American is close not even Adu. Every now and then you see evidence of the immense talent he has (free kicks, runs in the box, the way he controls a 50 yard pass with a light touch etc.) However he hates football, gets by on his talent, and is perhaps the softest player in the world, if he receives one hard tackle its like he gets afraid of the ball (see 06 WC). NEXT.....

Can we afford him? Yes but we don't want him and he likes to hang on the beach and wouldn't want to come here anyway. If any European team picks him up he's a VDM waiting to happen.

Runner up: Freddy Adu LW,RW,S- Age 19: Arguably the best player in the U-20 WC (though in my opinion Agureo was better but by not too much) can beat anyone one-on-one in any league, throws out nasty crosses on the wing as well. However ego still gets in the way and he suffers from a bad case of Stevie G disease in which he really wants to play CM. In the middle of the park C-mids and CBs just gang up on him and easily knock him off the ball. If he would only STICK TO THE WING HE'D BE BETTER THAN WALCOTT!!!!!!! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR YOU TO BE A RESERVE ON BENFICA WHILE AGUERO IS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN SPAIN!!!

Can we get him if we want him? Benfica only paid 1M for him which was a steal because there is still a chance he could develop into a 15-20M rated player. Yes, I think he needs a manager like Moyes to set him straight plus I think he really wants to play in the Prem. However if he becomes as good as his talent he'll want to leave as soon as a bigger club puts in a bid.

The best American in 2012 will be I'm skeptical that Freddy Adu will ever live up to his talent so its.....

Joey Altidore CF age 18 or 19- as long as he doesn't go to Barca this year. Classic CF who stays in position and can score with his head and feet. He's not that good yet and needs to go to a lesser team 1st. I think he'd fit right in at Villa and a partnership of Gabby, Young and Joey would be the best 2 Brits and a Yank partnership since the Pretenders. On 2nd thought Villa is already pushing us and has lots of money, go to Barca Joey. I think he could be almost as good as Samuel Eto when he reaches his prime.

Can we afford him: If Kendrick has an extra 10-12M between his couch cushions yes.

Runners up: 2A. Michael Bradley (holding mid age 20) and 2B. Clint Dempsey Age 25. (RW can play some striker and Osman's position) - Once Dempsey gets used to the number of matches in the Prem he is going to be very very good. I think he could be as good as Cahill is. Dempsey may be 25 but American players don't play as much in college and MLS as European players do so there isn't too much milage on him and he hasn't really been coached yet.

I haven't seen Bradley in the land of Kuyt (20+ goals in the Dutch league) but in America he has improved from you're only on the team becasue your daddy is coach to holy s%^& damn you are good! Bradley hasn't been the offensive force for America that he is at Heeveeeneeernenennen. His manager on Heeveneren says that he's going to be a star if its worth anything. On Everton he could provide some much needed height to our squad and perhaps get a few of those balls which Cars skies into row Z on goal. He still has to improve his tackling and he needs a year of seasoning in the prem so if we do pick him up don't expect him to beat Carsley for a starting 11 position the 1st year.

Both players are also the hardest working players in the US side, are easily coachable and are always doing what it takes to get better.

Can we get them? Yes and both shouldn't cost too much though be might have to get in a bidding war for Bradley with Blackburn and maybe another team. Also, Im not sure that after selling Alves if Heveeerenennenen is cash strapped, plus they are in the running for a C-League spot so they may not be eager to sell.

If all these players turn out to be as good as advertised I think the US has a serious chance to win the 2018 WC.

Other Americans who would be good on Everton: I think McBride can come in as a cheap reserve striker and bang in a few goals like Duncan did at the end of his career. Plus with Cahill out no one on our team besides Lescott can get a head on the ball.

Here are some youtubes of the U-20 WC Bradley is in a bit of the 1st one:

Here's another:

Eddie Johnson S. Age 23? Fulham: Prob one of the 5-10 fastest players in the Prem. Confidence comes and goes. Every year he played In the MLS he'd score like 15 goals in 8 matches and then go silent for the next 3 months. Had a very good U-20 WC few years (05?) in which he scored the most goals in the U-20s (6). Though I could be wrong about his U-20 WC. However cannot establish himself on the national side which is very very weak and thin at striker.

Can we afford him? Yes, but he's not good enough to beat Anichebe for a reserve spot.

Good write up Rook, I particularly agree about the Donovan stuff he was supposed to be a revelation the next big thing and that. but, whilst he was in Germany with Leverkusen whenever I got to see him play...which wasn't very often. He was dreadful, I think he'd be perfect for one of the fairy leagues like Spain or Italy, but Germany has proved and the premiership will if he ever moves over here that you get about him and frustrate him then he becomes useless.

Donovan has his moment I get to watch him for the Galaxy and I rate him ok. I don't care for Eddie Johnson at this point in time. ADU probably will get better but he isn't the second coming like people once thought.

My best bet from the American camp is Bradley & Altidore at the moment.

I do like Clint Dempsey and he reminds me of a Cahill. Didn't he have a trial or worked out with us some years back. I would take him if Fulham relegates and we can grab him on the cheap.

I like Monty knowing our funds are slim need to invest in quality. I suppose it will come down to if we make Europe next year.

Its funny against the [Poor language removed] in the C-League he came on in the beginning of the 2nd half when Bayer was down and even though he only played 45min and the [Poor language removed] still won, he dominated the match and was by far the best player on the pitch that night. Then in the return leg they let him start and he was utter crap and had to be subbed in the 50th minute.

He wouldn't make it Spain or Italy either. Even in those leagues there's always someone willing to give him a hard tackle.

I dont know much about football in the united states but i heard somewhare that it was one of the fastest growing sports over there. I might be wrong.

But if what i heard was right. with the size of their population and the way they promote and encorage their sports people it dont think it will be long (maybe 10-15 years)before they are the biggest export of quallity players in the world and will be making serious attemps at winning world cups!.

The joke over here is that it's been the fastest growing sport for the past 30 years.

I will admit that it's come on quite a bit since the establishment of a professional league.

lord i miss freddy adu, makes me wish i'd gone to more dc united games (though i went to quite a few) so i could have seen more of him, he was brilliant and brought such great spirit to the game, i'd love to have him at a team I root for again.

I wouldn't want eddie johnson, he's fast but he's also incredibly lazy, and i think we already have a good enough lazy but goalscoring striker (you know who). from what i've seen, off the ball his movement tends to be poor, and he doesn't follow the play back to slow down counterattacks very well, overall we don't need that kind of work ethic at everton.

One player i think should be mentioned is Taylor Twellman, who currently plays for New England Revolution in the MLS. He had a brief spell in germany where he never played above the reserve level, but he was really young at the time and we all know some americans struggle a bit in germany (donovan, clint mathis). he's a bit on in years (28) so we couldn't get an insane amount of use out of him, but as he's in MLS we should be able to buy him for cheap and i think he'd be a viable option.

I harped on about Twellman back before the WC. I am sure Bill remembers it well, but I think we are now at a place where Twellman would do us no good.

Preston wanted to buy him in January (.5-1M?) but MLS wouldn't sell him, Twellman was pissed. He only makes about 125K US dollars in the MLS and he's in his late 20s so his window is closing. He's not good enough for the prem.

Speaking of American players, Friedel always plays great against Utd, and just pulled another world class save against Tevez. I really want to say that Timmy is the better American keeper but I can't yet.

Twellman got a raise last year.

He's up to $325,000.

Plus, I'm sure he get some endorsement deals as well.
