Allardyce axed after Leicester

You mean like Martinez gave us ? Sexy fooball where you look good atacking but lose the game because once you have gone ahead you have no clue how to see the game out ?
I get that ideas how wins and losses can be better then draws but in practice its not so easy
Yes exactly if our defense is weak why not do what Allardyce has done and bring in a second coach (Shakespeare) to work the defense

Three from eighteen plus an opening round cup flame-out is pretty dire, even when United, Chelsea, Spurs and That Team are involved.

That said, getting the reputation of being a revolving-door-club where the mid-season replacement will most likely get replaced by season's end is not exactly conducive to attracting managerial talent. Even Abramovich had to settle for some uninspired managerial choices over the years despite setting the standard for indiscriminately tossing money at players.

It's not happening before the end of the season unless the trapdoor starts yawning again.

wont happen, the bounce after changing manager was unexpected.

Allardyce's usually has a stinker at the start then goes on a good streak, expect the board will know this and back him

We hated it when Gordon was appointed, Mike.

It was a very unpopular choice.

But by Jove we had some exciting football under him.

The first few months of his tenure, in winter/spring 1977, was a very vibrant time what with the Villa Trilogy and the great Clive Thomas Robbery.

And those first two full seasons under him saw some of the best football we have seen at Goodison outside of Title winning teams..... Dave Thomas, Big Bob and the rest.

Long unbeaten runs in both and being in the thick of the Title chase most of the season.

No sir, I was among those whom decried Gordon at first but he won me over and I retain fond memories of the Gordon Lee era ;)

Point taken , mate ;)

Spot on - 76/77 , 77/78 , 78/79 , early record very impressive -

As you rightly say great league and cup runs , but the proverbial " what if only " when its comes to my beloved team " , , one finicky point if I may - Duncan McKenzie for Mickey Walsh o_O
thanks mate for the reminders of Villa LCF + RS FAC SF "Clive " R/S in black Thomas " robbery good excuse to get :drunk:" tonight !

Then its more the 79/80 , 80/81 seasons sticking with me when it went pear shaped just avoiding the drop , apart from the FAC SF 79/80 cup run dashed at Elland Road another I tend to like to forget !

COYB - here,s too beating Leicester 6-0 next week ! - Tosun hatrick to boot !!!!!

So that’s a reason to keep him? What about all the other number of games were he didn’t do that? Get shut of him ASAP

He did something with Palace and Sunderland that no Everton manager has managed for the best part of 2 decades. He’s clearly not a fool. Why doesn’t he deserve at least a chance?

Yay to that ;)

No one wants to manage us?

Or every single professional football manager in the world, apart from maybe the top 20, would absolutely jump at the chance?

Manage in the prem- good
6mil a year- yeah, I’d take training for that much
Money to bring in players- yes, lots. So much it seems we don’t know how to spend it.

Not exactly the worst gig in football is it?

I genuinely think Allardyce was worried about actually having to manage us next season. It’s blatently obvious he just wants his payoff in May. 18months pay for 6 months work. He’s not stupid.

Probably has slacked off a bit to make sure he doesn’t do too well.

The whole situation reminds me of Spud’s job interview in trainspotting. He wants to do well enough to preserve his never-been-relegated status, but do too well and he might have to manage us beyond May and actually work for the last 12 months of his wages.
and that's why we took a retired manager on? Face facts, we're not an attractive prospect at this very moment. On paper we could be with the funding etc, but right now the way the team is and our position we're just not.

Indeed...some of our present "supporters" just think sacking a manager after a few games is the answer. End of season we can possibly review the situation and get rid of SA, providing the board have a decent replacement lined up...but will not happen until then imo. Even so does anyone trust our board to appoint anyone half decent with their awful track record over the last few years?? I certainly don't.

with you all the way ,

, COYB - EFC 6 LCFC 0 !

I`ve accepted that he`s not getting canned, until the end of the season.

However I still don`t see what the club would have to lose by binning him once we were safe.

It`d give us longer to do things properly this time around with a new manager.

Think it’s more to do with the style of play. And some of his ridiculous negative comments. I didn’t want him in the first place and would get rid as soon as we get safe.

He’s come in to do a job, but not good enough to take us forward
