Napoli signed a 24 year old Allan for 7m and had 4 and a half really good seasons from him. He has now fallen out of favour been accused of walking in training yet we want to play £30m for him. Not only that but we want to give him a lengthy contract.

Haven't we learnt the lessons of the likes of Walcott.

Why aren't we looking to sign a 24 year old top class talent who we can sign for a reasonable fee and then sell on at a profit. We are the gift that keeps on giving.

Signing players approaching their 30's who have never played in the Premier League is a mugs game. If it goes badly we are left with another player on a long term contract that we cannot shift.

Stick to your cheapskating team

You have to admit that it's very unusual to still be paying a 34 Year old a massive top wage.
Anyway, I think the 5 year contract offer is probably made up.
I think alot of the stuff from Italian media is made up and fed by the selling clubs tbh. I'm just saying he has a good relationship with Carlo so it wouldn't only be about money.

But look at the rest of our squad its young. Our midfield needs an instant upgrade and we need leaders. Yes if we were only buying players nearing thirty I might agree but we need a base to build from. Also i think people underestimate the fact that we aren't actually that attractive right now to 24 year old prospects look at both Gabriel and Hojberg going elsewhere. We just finished 12th we need to build a spine.

Of course it's about money and there is no denying that a big wage 5 year contract for a player 30 next birthday is quite unusual.

It is in football always, but I am just saying he has a good relationship with Carlo too without that he wouldn't want to come here. He will have other options also I don't believe the five year contract offer.

Are we building a spine with an inherent slipped disc though?

I will have to trust those running the club. I was expecting more creative names but maybe Carlo thinks he needs someone he can trust in the team. I doubt the figures being banded around tbh because if we were paying that it would be done now. Smacks of Napoli wanting more.

Such a terrible argument this. Even when people reel off names they just get told they wouldn’t come/are rubbish/would cost more than they say. It’s pretty clear that these players do exist, expecting fans to know them is a bit disingenuous, expecting scouts to isn’t.
The opposite is also a terrible argument against signing a handful of more experienced players to mix with an already young squad.
