Player Valuation: £60m
Was on BBC2 not long ago...

Did anyone see this???????

Part 1 : Love and power

Part 2 : The use and abuse of vegetational concepts

Part 3 : The monkey in the machine and the machine in the monkey.

I'm glad at least one other person has at least seen the first one.

All 3 are superb Heats. The 3rd one is just immense. It covers how the west started the African 'world war' over the precious uranium and minerals found in the jungle in Congo. Amazing stuff including the Belgians and some real shocking but unique footage.

They should defo rerun this, as it's off iplayer in a few days.

Glad you watched it mate, sorry to duplicate the thread.

I searched and stuff but no one adds tags to new threads these days lololol.

The documentaries were boss though. Hope they bring them out on DVD...

Duplicate what you want, no probs, I actually had to track Bruce down and whack him with it to get any recognition (as he has mentioned Ayn Rand previously). As for the series I believe it is available on the internet as a torrent if you are into that sort of thing.

When we do this stuff, can it make sense?

Looks like some kind of TV Show, what about, I have no idea.

Just reading up on this.

My brain just exploded. Fantastic stuff.

Looks like great stuff to watch. Thread title caught my attention as it's named after a poem by my favourite writer, Richard Brautigan.

I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.

Watched the first two and have the last one recorded. I'm not fussed the way he seizes on individuals (like Ayn Rand in the first episode) to thread through the story - it doesn't make any sense to me. His angle on the failure of the communications led revolutions in the second episode was very thought provoking.

One thing you have to give him credit for (and the BBC for that matter) is having a go at a metanarrative to explain the world around us today. It used to be the norm in social science, now it's seen as 'audacious'.

Viva Adam Curtis.

ps. talking about being watched over by machines of grace - what happened to the 9/11 feature film thread I posted last night?

Those cracks were papered over long ago mate. Never to be mentioned again.

Watched the 1st and the 3rd episode.

One word. Brilliant.

Probably the best documentary I've ever seen. The way the whole thing is laid out, music, the vignettes of archive footage married superbly with the narrative of the story. It often seems like a parody, if it wasn't fact. Astounding. Brilliantly edited, the show is a time capsule; it's tone and fluency are mind blowing.

I have to get a copy of this.

So glad you watched it mate. I was going to explain a bit more about it, but i thought, how on earth can I explain this well? It covers so much.

Best bit for me was when Alan Greenspan claimed he didn't actually know for certain if he actually existed. A few minutes later in the documentary.."By this point Greenspan was the chairman of the Federal Reserve..."

Just superb.
