All this talk about who should play right mid

It's not like that was the only game that Rodwell played on the wing and he did great there. I agree that he should be given 5-10 games in right midfield. Osman and Pienaar is not the answer. Bily might be but will be better in the hole behind the striker. You don't need an outright striker in your team if the players interchange constantly. The goals will flow, just look at Barcelona, neither Messi or Ibrahimovic are strikers, but hey they score goals.
Put Cahill up front, he will knock down the ball into the path of Bily and with his shooting he could get 10+ goals. With both Pienaar, Arteta and Rodwell constantly making runs, we should make it difficult to pick up our players and teams have started to play us the same way they play United 10 men behind the ball.

Coleman - Heitinga - Jagielka - Baines

Rodwell - Arteta - Fellaini - Pienaar

Everyone in that team is comfortable on the ball, Fellaini, Cahill and Rodwell will provide cover for corners. We could have attacks coming from all over the park, Coleman and Baines bombing down the flanks, interchanging with Rodwell and Pienaar. Heitinga taking the ball forward, with Fellaini dropping down. I could easily see all of our midfield and Cahill getting 8+ goals each. Have Beckford and Saha as impact subs, once the opposition have run ragged because of the fluidity and movement from our team. Please try it Moyes you'll not regret it.:D

Pienaar does so well down the left because of his great understanding with Baines. For whatever reason Baines and Billy just don't gel. I'm an admirer of both Neville and Hibbert but do believe that the right-sided problem is as much to do with the right-back as the player in front.

Hopefully Moyes will let Coleman have a go sooner rather than later.

I don't. I want our best team on the pitch, no Real Madrid square pegs round holes bollox for me.
Old cliche...Star Team beats a Team of Stars.

Square pegs in round holes? Areta has proved he can play wide right. He played there a good while for us & was still our outstanding player. Until we get somebody else to play the role, he's our best option imo.

Arteta won our player of the year award twice while playing on the wing. A Fellaini/Rodwell or Fellaini/Heitinga midfield pairing depending on the opposition could prove very effective. Though it's a bit strange to think with him being a career center back Heitinga is our best Arteta-surrogate, his range of passing and vision is among the best at the club. Also, Distin was easily our best player against Wolves so I'm not keen to see him bumped out the team any time soon.

Coleman---Jags---Distin--Baines

^ Those boys would rinse Villa.

I've suggested in another thread that we should give Coleman a go there. By the looks of it, Neville and Hibbert are going to keep him out of the right back berth for this season atleast. Rather than have him getting splinters, lets have him doing what he does best and that is attacking the fullback and creating chances. He's got to be a better option than either Osman or Bily there. It's worked for Spurs having Bale playing leftwing rather than leftback. What have we got to lose? He can always slot back in at fullback if we find another solution to our right-sided problems.

Heres the video of that goal. (starts at 0:45)

Pace, strength and the ability to pick out a pass. Not all of that can be said for Bily or Osman. If any of it.

Arteta started out as a central midfielder before we bought him, Moyes chucked him on the wing because he was too lightweight if i remember. I don't think he offers the qualities wingers need in my opinion, but I agree to disagree. We don't have many other options!

First post on here. I'd agree with those that think Anichebe should be our right-mid. He has pace, strength, and the ability to take a man on. He had some good moments last season and looked sharp this pre-season when he was in OZ, against admittedly poor opposition.

Just my two bobs worth anyway! :)

He can play out there, and he probably is better than any of the options we have out there at present BUT he's also our best centre midfielder by quite a distance, and that's the most important area of midfield for me. His influence on the team's results and style of play is there for everyone to see, we are a far better team with Mikel pulling the strings from a central position.

He just needs to get back to his best really, by all accounts he's a little bit behind in terms of sharpness at present, but that'll come with games. Watching the highlights, he was involved in everything good we did during the game, and that's performance was nothing on what he's capable of.

We'd also still have the same problems, a lack of pace in wide areas.
