It's obvious Moyes wants Milito.

I highly doubt Moyes will use Smith as just as striker if he signed Milito.

A strikeforce of Yakubu, Milito, Vaughan and Smith would be superb.

I don't want to see Smith in the centre of midfield but i'd defo prefer him to Neville there.

For 3 million, i'm delighted, Smith has always been a player i've liked. He was great at Leeds and if he can get that form again, it will prove a snip.

I was told of a flurry of activity around the Radisson this late afternoon. Smith was booked into the hotel. Hopefully he's just down to see the Beatles Story at the docks, because he's a hopeless [Poor language removed] nark.

I'm going to stop being negative about Smith and give him a chance. If he's coming hear as backup to help the cause who can argue. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

In all honesty, he'll be a good player to have in the squad. He'll mix in well with the lads and he's got a good mentality. I always like to see one or two English players coming in to make the balance right.

I've got to admit I'd hate to play against Vaughan, Smith and Cahill in the same team, that would be hell.

Prove me wrong Smudger. (y)

At one point Smith was a very good and up and coming attacking mid/striker. Then after his broken leg he never found his form again. He then went to the Barcodes and has been constantly played out of position, and we all know what that club does to players abilities ([Poor language removed] all). He definitely wants to move here but Keegan is being an arse. I believe Smith has realised he made a bad choice and wants to lift his career again. By having faith that moyes will raise his game again is a compliment paid to us by Smith. For less than 3 mill I would take him in a shot. Top quality squad player right now, and could well improve to first team selection after the correct guidance.

I'm invoking the chico approach here:

Smith was a good youngster, but has gone downhill since then.

Currently at barcodes, he's crap.

But if we sign him, he's ACE.

i think moyes is buying smith for the striker role vacated by aj.

when things get tough (which is 1 injury away) he will be moved into midfeild.

disregarding all my thoughts on the irritations and also the benefits of this move i have 1 main fear.

smith badly broke his leg and hasnt been the same player since.

can he get back to his best ? is his leg safe ?

crocks like williamson and bilic helped tip this club over the edge financially in the johnson era.
id hate us to have another long term injury causing a financial burden.

Heard of alot of activity at the same hotel mate, im affraid nothing has come of it :(

Many years ago I felt the same when Howard signed Paul Power and I was wrong,so bearing that in mind and Moyes reputation of improving players im keeping a open mind(y)

Previously boss striker: check.

Injury problems: check.

Strange signing: check.

Mad as a box of otters: check.

I present Andy Gray. Way over the top, I know.

Nice line of thinking - hope that carries on to include goals in FA Cup & European finals. Anyway - he's the only thing close to a signing this summer apart from that Lambanana dude I keep reading about and I'm not even sure what position he plays:P.

Thing is mate, if the story broke tomorrow about this Lambanana cat available from a latin sounding club then some would jump at it.

Everyone knows his bossness has got to be collaborated by Youtube and Championship Manager first.

ELSTONE OUT.

people keep going on about his goalscoring record at the skunks, and i,m not defending it, but lets have it right, who is succesfull there?
makes me laugh when people refer to them as a big club, the only thing what attracts players to them is the stupid wages they pay. apart from the home grown players they have, every other player is only there for the money.
in fact, the whole area are out and out losers. they havent got one succesfull actor, band, boxer and the only footballers are ones that have left the place to get success.
i think smith would shine here, when he comes to a club with a bit of passion, and he sees the other players proud to wear the jersey. just hope if he does, it will be as the second striker. because he isnt a midfielder lets face it.
