Alan Smith what do you think of us buying him in the summer?.

Now before you shower me with a hail of abuse, just think. When at Leeds he was a class act, plenty of teams were after him before he signed for Utd. He scored plenty of goals for them, an was the heart an soul of the club. He's the sort of player that can take a game by the scruff of it's neck. An the fan you'st to love him their, an aleays respond to him.

He then went to Utd where every time he played done really well for them, be it up front or midfield. Never got that many games if truth be told. Moyes went after the lad whaen it amerged he was leaving the club.

He then went to the geordie mongs, an yes he's been really [Poor language removed]. But the whole team are crap TBH. They hate him up their an he'd leave given the chance.

I think he'd only cost about 3/4m, an at that price i think he's worth a punt. Iv always liked him as a player, even thou things hav'nt worked out at the maggots he could still be a good buy.

What do you think?? Are we looking to buy better or would he be good to have around??

If he could be bought for 3/4 of a million, like you claim, and would be on less than £15k a week, then ship him down here.

Otherwise, no. I think the gay geordies would hold out for nearer £4m, and Smith would want wages of over £30k a week.

Sorry mate, i ment 3 to 4 million. Not three quarters of a million (250,000).

Sorry my fault.

Still think it could be worth it.

 You mean 750,000 for three-quarters.

I wanted us to go for him last summer, but I don't think we should. We need to be looking elsewhere than Alan Smith. I think he is the epitome of why the barcodes haven't done well, gone for the money, and for that, no thanks.

IIRC, you don't like Fernandes for leaving us at the last minute, right?

No thanks. He's either a striker who doesn't score or a midfielder who can't tackle. He's got passion yes but where in desperate need of ability and he doesn't offer that.

We should be getting mid fielders to play in midfield and strikers to play upfront and I'm not sure what category Smith falls into. He's not particularly good at either role. He's had the chance of playing in both positions for Newcastle and has failed dramatically.

In the first half of the season he played in a midfield three and looked lost. The games just passed him by, he lost possession alot and he gives away the most free kicks in the League. He got a run of games with Owen upfront lately aswell and didn't score or even look like scoring in the games.

He's one of the most overrated premiership players. Why Allardyce spent 6 million on him I'll never know. The Newcastle fans don't rate him and neither do I.

Been up since 5.30am for work so im f'd. I did meen 750,000...:huh:

His an mannys situation are so different.

He's garbage. We should get Milner. He's a Moyes-type...if we still have a Moyes by the summer:unsure: like.

Yep Smith left his boyhood club for an enemy whereas Fernandes left a club he has no connection to for a club in another country. Completely different. What Smith done was worse in my opinion.

We need to look to the future which is breaking the top 4 and Alan Smith is not one of the players we need to do that.

He is average and nothing more.

straight swap for v.d.m. he's the sort of player they usually end up with, so why not one who's proved himself as a useless, lazy sicknote, who when he plays he looks like he'd rather have stayed on the bench.like i said ...their type of player

theres only 4 newcastle players i would even consider...

given , duff , milner and martins.

the rest are wannabes , pay packet hunters and over hyped trash.

Surely Owen could be added to that list. Don't get me wrong, little Michael is irritating. However, he's a great goalscorer when he's firing on all cylinders.

I don't think Smith is in the league of players we should be looking to bring in to 'go up a level' squad wise.
