So did Harvey and Kendall just hold their positions while Alan Ball was everywhere?
they were great players in there own right, all could put in a good shift had skill and could put a foot in bally was a freak just didnt stop running, but could play as well seemed to be everywere.
bally scored in my first ever game agianst newcastle, even after he left i still loved him , went up to anfield to see him agiast the redshite one game it was played midweek during the day because of, powercuts, about a dozen of us ran all the way from school to get in at 3 quarter time, he scored a minute or two after we got in, we went ape [Poor language removed] on the kop, not because arse were beating the redshite , just that are hero had scored, went miles to early

So Morrissey and Husband like wingers/strikers playing up against the oppo full back?

morrisey was a wide player, more complete than a simple winger, he could put a cross in and beat a player , but he was a hard man as well, would go inside if anybody needed sorting out ,nothing out there like him out there these days, nice bloke as well used to always stop and chat after the match used to park his car in are road.

OH , WASN'T HE , THOUGH ,..???

NAILS , if you DO NOT mind .

Ask Tommy " The Anfield Iron " or Norman Bites Ya' Legs , how many times, BETWEEN them they fronted Moggsy ???

Incidentally , Me Granddad Jackie told me that when Moggsy played for Lpool Boys , theyd get 2 thousand extra on the gate.

Me Da' did a similar thing as it goes , but it SPEAKS VOLUMES , to me , like .

I'm old enough to have seen Ball play during his Blackpool days - they came to GP in 1965(?) and me da pointed to him and said "watch that number 8 lad, he's a great player..." (Thanks Dad for showing me how to be a fan of the game as much as the club....)

What to say to those who weren't as fortunate as I? He had many facets to his game. Yes, he could (and would) run and run but was a much more complete player than that. He had a sweet, sweet touch on the ball that took him past opponents before they knew what was happening. His drive alone would lift the whole team around him - drawing great performances out of other players. The present player that reminds me of him most is Van Der Vaart at Tottenham immense drive and real skill - he scored the other week from close in by selling a subtle dummy to a defender and crashing the ball in. I thought at the time "...bit like Bally that..."

Pienaar has some of his skills but is a much more limited player.

But perhaps it was his belief that was his greatest contribution to Everton. As an adolescent watching him, he led me to believe that - with him in the side - we were always gonna win. Thank you, Bally for some of the happiest moments of my early life.

He, Harvey and Kendall could all play, pass, head, tackle and move. Their mutual understanding was profound - such that they kept the ball brilliantly, passing amongst themselves until one of them (often Bally) would force an opening.

Young? He was much more dainty (Bally could be subtle with the ball but didn't have Young's grace). I saw him once sell a perfect dummy to a defender and without touching the ball, send him the wrong way whilst the Vision took it along the touchline..

Morrisey was a different kind of player entirely, a Liverpool bruiser who could play. He was feared by opponents as he really was hard. I went to school with a guy called Steve Kindon who later played for Wolves (journeyman striker) and described JM as " a nasty piece of work..." True but he could play.

Wore the red before the blue as well - vey rare back then. I was at OT in the sunshine in '68 to see his finest hour - scoring the pen past Gary Sprake that took us to Wembley. Sadly, a few weeks later he threw his Cup medal away after we lost to the Baggies. Wonder what happened to that medal?

But Bally was our greatest. The 1985-87 side had no stand out stars like him. I felt the same when he left as I did when I read a headline in the Mirror EL KEL describing Kendalls departure for Bilbao...gutted.

Almost too awful to even think about even now. :(

Spoke to me Ma' about this the other day . Even now , 39 years later , she remembered it like a Death in the Family . Honest .

1 ; Me Ma' is NOT the Match-Goer in our House . Loves Everton , but HER Mother was the REAL Blue .

2 ; It was HER BIRTHDAY .

Football , eh ,...???

I remember hearing rumours that he may be leaving, and watched 'News at Ten' every night to see if it had happened. I NEVER watched the news, i was only ten. After a week I was starting to think it wasn't going to happen...then suddenly "big football news today, the Everton and England world cup winner, Alan Ball has signed for Arsenal in a British record transfer deal...."

Still remember it staring at the TV screen in disbelief, even though I had been expecting it I couldn't accept that it would happen.

If you saw on the news tomorrow that Tim Cahill had signed for Chelsea, how would you feel. Multiply it by 1000. That's how bad it was.
