ALAN BALL REMEMBERED

Its difficult to describe his attributes to younger supporters - the best I can think of is a turbo-charged Scholes with added class.

True great I can still remember where I was and the shock I felt when I heard he'd been sold

Same here. Was just about to go to school when it was announced on the radio. Terrible decision from the club and things were never the same until about 13 years later.

RIP Bally.

Perpetual motion ..a proper player and man..Alan Ball ..the best of them all ..met him only once at killarney races..what a thrill.

I was at Goodison when he came back as a player for Southampton. I was in the Park End stand.

His name was announced to the crowd and he got a fantastic ovation.

Bally said he was so moved (tearful) it took him 20 minutes to get into the game.

Outside of Dixie Dean, he may be the greatest Everton legend of them all.

I recall the day he got sold. His forlorn face on the back of the daily newspaper. 'Why did Everton let me go?' was the question.

To quote my Dad

I was there at Fulham when he made his Everton debut, it seemed as if he'd played for Everton for years, he just slotted in and scored a great goal.

RIP Alan

Cried when he was sold and I hated Catterick for it. Could of served us for another 6-7 years and was a great leader on the pitch. When he left Everton went into decline.

“I was running back to the centre circle after I scored the second goal against Liverpool and pure elation welled up inside me. I remember thinking, “I just love this place – I want this place forever.”

RIP Alan Ball.

Alan Ball dies fighting fire in his garden...
.Alan Ball, the youngest member of England's 1966 World Cup-winning football team, died of a suspected heart attack yesterday as he attempted to put out a fire in his back garden.
Shortly after midnight, he noticed that the heap was on fire and ran out with a bowl of water and it is thought he suffered a heart attack. He had been due to play golf yesterday in aid of the Wessex Heart Foundation. He is the second member of the 1966 team to die. Bobby Moore, the captain, died of cancer in 1993.
