How can you be so certain when the lad hasn't done it consistently at any significant level?
He's played in the Dutch top flight for two seasons when he was 20/21.

I've seen him play a number of times and to say its men against boys when he confronts the opposition up there is an understatement. He's ridiculously better than all others. Of course, no one can be certain. But he's a massive favourite to make the grade. Arsenal have looked at it and Wenger's no dummy.

TBF wenger signs top drawer CB after Top Drawer CB, arsenals Achilles heal has been their poor ability going forward.

Exactly. Come on Blues where is your/our sense of pride. £5 million plus a player for a totally untested one. If he was of PL calibre teams like Chelsea an UTD. Would be in for him to replace Terry and pick any UTD CB.
I don't remember Chelsea and Utd signing John Stones, Phil Jagielka, Seamus Coleman or Joleon Lescott to name a few when they were untested in the premier league. Those are PL calibre players and then some.

One way of looking at it, the other would be did they need one when the afore mentioned players were avaliable

That's not what you said and with our crap board/lack of funds £5 million is too bigger risk.
I dont think you've seen him play. You probably have a default setting that everything north of Hadrians Wall is utter tosh. Well, as a rule of thumb it's not too bad, but it's too general.

Stick to the rules mate. You would look like Maldini in the SPL Scottish Pub League

No, in a league where the champions manage to labour throughout a one-horse race.

Nobody in England wants him.
Jelavic fetched £7.5M and was from that league, and he IS appalling.

McGeady should land Everton £5/6M no problem.

£1m for mcgeady is terrible tbh. when you see the prices for players half as proven you shouldn't be accepting it. i know it's more about wages but £1m is absolutely nothing, especially to us.

Thats not what you asked. You said if a player is PL calibre quality, why aren't teams like Chelsea or Utd looking at him (or to that effect/word for word).

My point is that there is a hell of a lot of diamonds out there that teams like your Chelsea's and Utd's don't sign but wish they'd had. Just because they're not after a certain player ( in this case Van Dijk) doesn't mean he isn't PL calibre. Our current club captain wasn't called into the England setup until he was 25/26 years old.
