I'm not really sure why people don't think our midfield was creative enough last season???

I can understand the striker thing because anybodies well within their rights to lose faith in Jela the way he finished the season.

But, Midfield wise we were creating a lot of chances last season and thats with Pienaar being quite poor and Mirallas being out for a while with injuries.

As someone else mentioned, maybe Pienaar will be switched inside?

Possibly. That'd be a mistake too IMO. Doesn't score enough to justify playing off a striker IMO. Also, while not good personally, his thing with Baines still worked quite well last season.

I don't agree with us needing a striker and I don't think the chances were of good quality. Also as you say, Pienaar was poor and showed signs of rapid decline, Gibson who's our best creative passer was out a lot as was Mirallas. Coleman and Baines can only create that much from the back and mostly similiar runs and crosses which do leave our game one dimensional and easy to defend against with height. I feel we don't need a striker but a playmaker and a long term replacement for Pienaar. If Fellaini goes we need to replace him too.
This is how I see where we need replacements and in addition to that we'd prolly need more depth too with McGeady playing for Reading.

???
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
Gibson Fellaini/???
??? ??? Mirallas

I think people just realise that we need another option out wide than Mirallas and Pienaar because otherwise Naismith will come into the side.

Martinez likes a figure playing between the lines and keeping possession. I can see him using SP as he has Gomez.

I haven't seen much of Aiden McGeady as I don't watch the Russian League.. but I did see him in the Ireland v England friendly a month or so ago. The one thing I came away with after watching that match was that Seamus Coleman is utterly brilliant (was named MOTM in fact) and that McGeady looked like utter sh!te. Didn't fancy him at all.

Nah.

Striker and creative midfielder who isn't Aiden McGeady priority for me.

Then probably a decent keeper.

i'd say our options of osman, fellaini(not for me), barkley, naismith and possibly mirallas and pienaar for the ACM position up against just howard - not even going to count springthorpe, means that that position is priority. Howard's not a bad keeper at all he's had a feking shocking season though and the one before wasn't too great.

we need a new 1st choice imo. don't see the point in buying competition to "push" him. we'll need to replace howard withing 2 seasons anyway because of his age you would imagine.

still have nightmares of that stoke goal
