Academy Day

Seen as it's all about the kids today at Everton, why don't we make this the Official In The Wings Day for GOT. [Poor language removed] title, but you get the jist.

A few reminders of academy gems over the years, that I remember anyway. (although I use the word Gem in the loosest possible way)

Potential Lost

Danny Cadarmerteri
Michael Ball
Franny Jeffers
Michael Branch
Mark Hughes
Nick Chadwick

They were all players who had potential, but we never really saw it materialise.

Wayne Rooney
Jack Rodwell
Leon Osman
Tony Hibbert

But for me the biggest and most frustrating player to not play 500 times for Everton, dominate midfields all over, be capped by England over 50 times and achieve god like status the likes only really seen in these parts recently for Gerrard.

I'm obviously talking about Billy Kenny.

Makes me weep everytime I think about what could have been.

I used to hate Michael Branch with a passion. He was always gash.

I did however think that Cadamateri would end up doing well but that never happened.

He played in the Derby 92/93.

Wish I could get a copy of that game.

Michael Johnson had a trial here, I don't think he was ever officially on our books though. His dad was trying to find he the best place to develop, he went to the likes of Feyenoord, Liverpool and Leeds before going to Manchester City.

Joey Barton and Phil Jagielka where in the same Youth team at Everton, that team was split up though and we let lots of players go.

Baines also had a connection to Everton, either he was with us or he had a short spell like Johnson.

Needs to lose the attitude though, and look up and be aware of people around him.

Definitely needs to improve his attitude.

His ability on the ball and general awareness improved dramatically though. He has the ability and physique to be a decent player, not a special one by any means, but decent.

Anichebe will always be a handful because of his size, strength and power.
