They're right to not pay him the wages he's on now - we've got to grow beyond Doucoure and certainly not Doucoure as our highest earner.

But considering the amount of players we need, ideally I'd have liked him to stay a year or two but never on the wages he's on now.

I don't get the bitterness. If I could leave my current employ for a sizable wage increase for the same work whilst leaving my current employ on good terms for the last 2-3 years of my working career, I would for sure. And we all would. For sure.

I'm absolutely sure he does 'love the Club' and he will look back on his time here as probably his best footballing experience. But as @ChicagoToffee says it's a short career - and I know it's exceptionally well paid (probably ridiculously so) - but if he can maximise those earnings in his last couple of years as a professional then good luck to him. He doesn't owe us anything and, truth be known, we maybe owe him!

I have no animosity towards him he obviously loves the club but 120k a week is not going to happen.

He got us some vital goals and kept us up, so I understand some of the hate he gets.

I have to say for now I am really happy with how the club I have handled this. They have obviously offered him a new contract but on a reduced wage. When that was declined, they didn’t try to haggle or raise the wage to ridiculous levels. They had a ceiling and they stuck to it. Best of luck Doucs.

I do agree, that is a downside but, nevertheless, it's all smoke and mirrors and, ultimately, he wants to do right for himself and his family. He's maybe trying to push the envelope by suggesting he's worth more but, realistically, he would probably be extremely happy to secure another two year contract on similar terms. Time to go, lad. You've served us well, contributed a lot but your age and the fact that you struggle to trap a bag of cement means your time is up.

if i got offered significantly more money it would change my life

a footballer who's played in the premier league for around 10 years and has had a 120k a week contract for five of them will not have their life changed if they're suddenly on 50-60k a week. the money they make is obscene and there's nothing more he can own or do that he couldn't already. i dont begrudge them earning the money btw. id rather the money went to a traditionally working class player who actually makes the game happen, than suits or executives.

also its a job that is related to your performance and ability to do it, his has massively declined.
