2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Ultimately it's the right decision.

I thank him for his dedication and love of the club, some excellent goals and some vital goals, but we can't hang on to what essentially is a poor footballer for me.

Now, if we sign Soucek as his replacement we might as well fold the club.

Given the size of our squad id have liked him to have stayed as a squad player but we were never paying the wage he wants.

As a free agent, he'll likely get that wage elsewhere.
I was of this thought but then i watched the Southampton game at the weekend and realized that the reason why we need 'his' legs is because 'he' cant pass to a team mate, therefore he's always trying to rectify his mistakes.

The amount of time his gives the ball away is criminal for a PL footballer.

Im glad he's going, not with any hate but we need much much better if we want to move forward.

reports are we offered him a contract but on lower wages so he’s gone

so much for loving the club

the argument will be ‘would you take a paycut at your job?’ but i think anyone comparing football to a normal profession doesnt really know what theyre talking about

enjoy saudi and all the millions you’ll spend on what exactly? another ferrari?

Correct, their window to make money is much smaller than most professions. He should be maximizing his earning potential, especially at his age.

I’d hazard a guess at half his current wage for two years. Whether we like it or not, if he can get a similar contract again it’s investment for his family the rest of his life.

I would have liked him to stay for another year or two on reduced wages, but it is what it is - he ain’t worth £80-100k per week.

Regardless of his glaring flaws, he’s devoted and an influential player at his time here, with some important goals; the stats back it up too.

Best of luck to him.

Aye but 120k a week? He’s not even worth half that tbh. Time to move on. There will be plenty other players to replace him on much less…

They'll require a transfer fee.

We're in a position where we need both quality, and quantity.

I fear we could have to spread too thinly.

Dont get me wrong, I'm glad to no longer have to watch us trying to rely on Doucoures composure in the final third but let's have it right, we still need a squad.

I don't get the bitterness. If I could leave my current employ for a sizable wage increase for the same work whilst leaving my current employ on good terms for the last 2-3 years of my working career, I would for sure. And we all would. For sure.

I’m fairly sure knowing how Moyes likes to build we will have enough come season start. But I don’t wholly disagree, we do need numbers
