2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

I think the goal sums up exactly why he plays a lot, and something I said the other week - he lets us ‘cheat’ at both ends at the moment.

Once other elements of the team are stronger he won’t be seen too often in the starting 11 but he’s masking deficiencies across the team currently. We’ve just gone away to 3rd in the league and given them a proper game and nicked a winner - that’s testament to selections like this with this limited squad.

Not really got another player like him who can drop into CM to make a 3/make us compact but also get up the other end and press/give us another option up top and on the break. That’s the 94th minute and he’s got the legs to get up there.

We know how limited he is, just appreciate that he actually puts a shift in and genuinely looks like he enjoys being here. We’ve had some absolute shysters earning similar money to him who got away with far less effort (Schneiderlin/Gomes spring to mind). Once we hopefully strengthen in the summer I don’t think he’ll make many starting 11’s if he is still here.

….terrific post, Kev.

Interesting to hear the Forest manager say they were ‘dominated’ by Everton today and fully deserved the win.

….yep, reasonable that he wants 2 years and he clearly has plenty to offer anywhere in CM. With the contracts mess, we need numbers and he’ll be very useful for Moyes to call on.

I also hope we sign a better quality of player but there’ll be worst options to have around the place than Doucoure, given his versatility, desire to play, fitness and love of the club.
You obviously don’t watch football if you think he can play CM, he’s a liability there, because he can’t control or pass a football and it’s just a disaster waiting to happen. That’s why dyche played him further forward to get him away from our goal.

Yes he really loved the club as soon as Lampard dropped him,
Walking of the training ground, taking the piss, every one remembers him sitting on the ball in the warm up, at that point he didn’t give 2 ducks about tbe club and the fans.
And if he loves us so much, he will accept the pay cut

…I watch football, Matey , seems like Moyes does too.

Thanks Doucs but we need to move on,Harrison Armstrong will be better for his loan,we need to add young talent all over the pitch, this has been an inherrant problem with our club for years,we are far too sentimental,we need to start being ruthless, develop a mean streak right through the core of this football club,I love Seamus Coleman but unless we cannot attract a better coach he should move on too at the end of this season, give him a testimonial and the rapturous reception he deserves at the Southampton game but that should be it.

He was the worst player we had today for 90 minutes. Fair play for a well taken winner. The rest of that performance is why he needs to move on. He’s not good enough if we want to move into the top half and actually compete at that end of the table consistently. Seems a great guy. Teammates love him. Very limited player who kills off attacks more than he helps them in the aggregate.

He doesn’t play CM now though does he, he just drops into CM when we don’t have the ball. When we do or when their keeper has it he’s essentially playing as a second striker.

Nobody else in our squad right now has the legs/athleticism for that. Alcaraz could have started today and we could have won 4-0, he might have started and we lose 4-0 because we are no longer compact/hard to play against. It’s a pointless argument when you’ve just beaten third in the league away from home and thoroughly deserved it.

Football is too obsessed with ‘philosophy’ at the moment, sometimes pragmatism is absolutely fine. It’s been ok for Ancelotti…

If you don’t have the right squad to play a certain way you have to make sacrifices to try and get results/make you difficult to play against and find other ways to hurt teams. I’d say Moyes has done an incredible job at that all things considered.

…I watch football, Matey , seems like Moyes does too, sorry about that.
Well Moyes hasn’t played him CM yet, we know Moyes is a safety first manager and if he’d let the handbrake off a bit we may have won few more games recently instead of drawing most of them. And he will
Have to do that moving forward,
Because he’s now got owners who’ve spent a lot of money and will want to see us moving forward as a club and team. And draws don’t do that. Forest have lost 9
Games we’ve lost 10

Eggs said he can play in other position’s and that’s why he’s worth keeping ie CM, which I think he meant as a 2 With either gana or gamer not as in a 3 dropping back like today. I disagree and think he’s a liability in a 3. He’s a liability as a 10, because he’s a poor player. Got a goal today and we won the game, but you can’t look at things in isolation. Had we had better than doucoure, Beto and Harrison we wouldn’t have just won 1 game in 7

…given where we where the owners will be absolutely delighted with Moyes, he’s doing exactly what they hoped he would.

Amazed that posters are not happy with how things are going, 94th minute winner at Forest and I’m on the rum.

He’s playing because of players like Beto, Doucoure, Harrison, Myko, Garner.

We haven’t got two CM’s you could trust in a 2, Gana has been fantastic but whoever is next to him have been wildly inconsistent (bar Mangala in fairness to him). Doucoure is essentially a plaster for issues we have elsewhere. Yes that creates problems for us going forward at times, yes he’s crap in possession. But I can’t see Alcaraz working back to put a tackle in on their winger or closing down 40 yards to cut off a pass to stop their defenders playing out.

He’s ugly, ungainly and obviously we need better long term. He’s just effective at what we need him to be doing though currently. I hope we outgrow him in the summer as much as anyone else.
