He’s a bit like McTominay at Man Utd, great in the support role, breaking into the box and has an instinct for where the ball is going to drop. Big goal threat. Play him further back and ask him to get on the ball and it’s just not his game, not a technical/creative passer. A lot of Timmy Cahill about him as well. Suits the system and is real good at what he’s being asked to do. Valuable player!
There’s a clip of his goal with Harrison chasing back from their penalty area to close Trippier down . Tellingly, Doucoure moves across to form a double block cutting down Trippier’s options . Suddenly we have four players moving forward and we scored , what Pep referred to last season as “ one of the best teams at transition “
