45 minutes against a genuine top-tier opponent and we can see EXACTLY how much we miss the boy Abdoulaye. If we want to compete in Europe AND in the Prem next year then we need more pace / athleticism in CM. We can't just hope that Allan and Doucouré will both stay fit while making forty starts each.

I get your point - but tbf he was in that first half v United when we were worse than this.

A midfield with Gomes and Sigurdsson isn’t getting us into Europe though / hope Davies and Allan can stay fit.

Need to get another midfielder at least in the Summer who can get around the pitch a bit

Doucoure is a great runner with a tireless engine. He can get the ball, charge forward 30 yards and the whole block moves up with him. As a defender having him in front of you us just top notch.
As much as James can and does unlock the opponent’s defense, he can’t do what the Douc does again and again in matches.

Both on the pitch tonight would have made a huge difference.

But Tuchel has got Chelsea ticking like a Tag Heuer. Different class tonight.
