Good thread. FWIW is For What Its Worth.
Working in the US Navy, I have no choice but to learn to live and breathe Acronyms/Abbreviations.
I work at NAVSUBSCOL, which is Naval Submarine School, in the ATT class (Advanced Technical Training). I used to work up at BESS (Basic Enlisted Submarine School) up until a couple of months ago. I am currently qualifying MTS (Master Training Specialist).
In the Navy all of our gear has to have PMS performed (Preventive Maintenance System) using MRC's (Material Requirement Cards). You have to make sure the MRC is current by using the LOEP (List Of Effective Pages) in the PMS deck.
My previous command was at SDV Team 1 (SEAL (Sea, Air Land) Delivery Vehicle Team 1) working on the ASDS (Advanced SEAL Delivery System). While there I qualified SSW (Ship Safety Watch), SDO (Ships Duty Officer) WCS (Work Center Supervisor), RHIB coxswain (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat)
etc etc. It is never endeing and I am sure I come across new acronyms ever day in the Navy.
