A twist on Kirkby?

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
England are bidding to host the 2018 World Cup finals and the new Goodison is being muted as a potential venue, largely on account of it being in Kirkby and therefore officially at least outside Liverpool. As WC officials prefer stadia to be from different cities this technicality could result in us staging WC games should the bid be successful.

it is quite a ways off, by then kirkby could very well be part of Liverpool. I am not so sure that it will be a venue as the [Poor language removed] may also build a new stadium by then and it might be chosen over new Goodison. pretty much it is 50-50. That being said England might not even get the finals so it is very iffy.

its annoying, other teams are getting bigger stadiums than us :(, by the world cup we will have the 7th biggest stadium i think...

...Good thing is our stadium looks boss :)

Wembley Stadium (London, 90,000 capacity)
Old Trafford (Manchester United, 76,212)
Emirates Stadium (Arsenal, 60,432)
Liverpool's planned Stanley Park stadium (60,000-80,000)
West Ham's planned new east London ground (60,000)
St James' Park (Newcastle, 52,387)
Everton's planned Kirby stadium (50,000)
Planned new Nottingham stadium (50,000)
Stadium of Light (Sunderland 49,000)
City of Manchester Stadium (Manchester City, 47,726)
Villa Park (Aston Villa, 42,573 could rise to 50,000)
Stamford Bridge (Chelsea, 42,055)
Elland Road (Leeds 40,242)

Why the hell would Nottingham need a 50k stadium.

And ours is 55k with the expansion to 65k possible if needed.

And what would West Ham's stadium matter? Remember, one stadium per city right, does that include Wembley? Or is it Wembly plus one club stadium, in which case it would have to be Arsenal's.

Thats what people are concerned baout this bid. Theres too many congested stadiums in the north-east, north-west and london

It isn't like there is a plethora of space to build stadiums like here in the US.

Germany had 12 stadiums for the 06 world cup.

So, assuming one club stadium in addition to Wembley for London, it goes

Wembley
Emirates
Villa Park
New Kirkby stadium
New [Poor language removed] stadium
Old Trafford
City Of Manchester Stadium
The Riverside
Stadium of Light
St.James Park
St.Mary's

That is 11 right there. For the 12th, we could add in Boundary Park :P

Pompy are getting a new stadium. Also the requirement is a minimum of 40,000 seats so that rules out 'Boro.

Wembley
Arsenal
Chelsea
New Everton
New Liverpool
Manchester United
Manchester City
Newcastle
Sunderland
Aston Villa
Derby County
Portsmouth

The rule is one stadium per city except one city (London). But Everton will be in Kirkby and Manchester United play in Salford so both can be included. It would be fantastic if New Goodison was used. As the o.p said a twist on moving to Kirkby!

Every plan I've seen is 50k with expansion to 55k, where have you seen 55-65k? I'd love it to start at 55k but im sure its 50k.

Its just dawned on me. If England get the 2018 world cup then some teams will get some serious money to build/improve their stadiums...

Should we put the breaks on and see if we get that world cup?

I think whatever happens, the only thing we MUST do is ensure that we have a world class stadium ready for when/if the world cup comes to this country. We have to at least be in with a shout of hosting games.

But we also know that if it comes down to 1 out of our or their stadium representing the city then we have a 0% chance of hosting any games. There is more likelyhood that we will win the league, and every cup competition this year than them choosing us over them and that even if we had a bigger and better stadium.

theres the small issue of the 2012 olympics to hurdle before government money can be mentioned. and after the way wembley was mismanaged and delivered year/s behind schedule, who can be trusted to deliver?

west ham and spurs both are looking at potential new homes with certain olympic stadia being possibilities.

got a feeling the 'millenium stadium' could be on the roster to host some games, especially with the roof providing a certain guarantee.
