Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
Tomorrow, The Grand Old Lady will welcome home one of her sons, a man who realised his destiny and became a Goodison legend. A player who i sometimes wish was still there in the centre of midfield, where the boots used to fly and wasn't a place for the faint hearted. He never shied from a tackle and never gave less than his all for that famous Royal Blue shirt.
A memory that will forever be fresh in my mind, is of the great man standing before me on the pitch in the corner of the Gwladys St. The League Championship trophy held aloft, and as he walked along the touchline he held it up to the mainstand and then the top balcony, before turning and raising it one last time for the masses gathered behind the goal.

Peter Reid, you are one of my heroes.
Peter Reid you gave me my rite of passage.
For the memories that you gave me I Thank You

Tomorrow i shall raise a glass and say, "Welcome back Reidy..Cheers!"

He's old
he's grey
You should've seen him play
Peter Reid !! Peter Reid !!

My first ever Everton hero. Got an autograph of him, when the Everton team landed on Maastricht/Aachen Airport for their encounter with Fortuna Sittard, back in 1985. Lost that autograph:(, but never lost the memories.

Almost forget the legend would be back.

Wouldnt mind him coming out at one point to give a sly wave to the fans are gets a little chant like.

I remember I went to the Reading game a few season back, was a good day for seeing celebs....Saw James Nesbitt at Manchester Picadilly, Sly Stallone came on before the game, and Peter Reid came out at half time.

Reading through that initial post with only one thing in mind.....

"Did this guy watch the same James Beattie as the rest of us?

then I got to the Championship trophy bit and realised someone else must be coming back too. :D

if i can get down near the dugout i'll be getting a pic with the man, i may even get a bottle of grecian to get it autographed.
where on earth my shirt from the pics above has gone i do not know, it was in a suitcase in the loft at my folks. my mar said no way had she lobbed it, but it appears to be lost forever, and it still would've fit as well. that would've been worn for deffo.

i think what instantly made him more of a hero for me, was that a few mates are Bolton fans, and they used to go on and on about him, then he got injured and consigned to the scrap heap. I believe he trained with Wigan whilst trying to come back from his injury, then he came to us for the princely sum of £60,000, Bolton snatched our hands off for what they considered to be a crock. Then as they say, the rest is history, and i got the added bonus of rubbing salt into Wanderers wounds as we went one way and they nosedived to obscurity, with 'their hero' taking us on our way.

Beattie, yeah mate, the one who left with all the fans best wishes, we'll all just put it down to 'one of those that just didn't work out for either of us' and next thing he's in the paper crying and slating the club.
Beattie... You were never good enough for this club !!

liz looks ace on your avatar btw.(y)

I was there that day Reidy lad , in the Upper Bullens with my dad . Fond memories indeed . Its crazy to think that there is a whole generation of Blues who have never seen anything like it . Madness to think that barely 7 years after I was sat with a few mates in the Street End with our feet drapped over the ones infront in a crowd of 14,000 for the visit of Southampton . Now we have a team that is probably the best since Reidy lifted that beautiful trophy all those years ago .

I expect Reidy's reception raised the roof?

How was Beatties return greeted?

Loved Reidy ,but also remember him wanting to go to Wolves instead of us but that fell through so we got him my gripe is why not pick us first:(

sorry for my ignorance, but what's the ocassion for Reid being at Goodison tomorrow, just a visit or a event even, not sure.

One thing I remember was when Kevin Moran tackled him and he went about 8ft into the air during the cup final defeat, the former still being the only man to be sent off in an FA cup final (Peter Willis I think it was)

Played in Mexico 86, could not prevent Maradona putting out the English at some stage, I think Robson maybe could of picked him four years later, sure he was not included for Italy.

Left for QPR after some great service, became Man City manager then later Sunderland, but here there is only club where he will be revered.
