A no win situation

Should Moyes have played what everybody thinks was his strongest XI, last night, and Grealish and AN OTHER got injured, being kept out were out for a long period, he would have been slated for playing them. He just can’t win. Accept who we are. We’ve had to live with this for years, and it’s not going to change overnight. We all want success but there’s no guarantee when.
I feel like this same discussion was being had about Moyes when I joined GOT in 2010

I get the argument for playing a strong 11 from the start, getting ahead and then making the subs, but Moyes is managing a squad and the cup is an opportunity to give minutes to those on the fringe. If not, when we need them (injuries,ACON etc) they won't be up to it. It's up to those playes to come in and stake a claim. They should be hungry. Look at Keggers this season. He wants to be part of it. If they consistently fail to take their chance, they should be moved on ruthlessly and replaced by better. Saying that, I think Seamus at LB was an odd decision.

I can’t believe this thread to be honest

We’ve gone from two games ago everyone looking up and feeling like we can challenge in cups and have a go at finishing in a European place to ACCEPT WHO WE ARE?

I was born in 88 and have never seen us win a thing. Since then clubs like Birmingham, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Newcastle and West Ham have lifted trophies. Ask their fans if they’d have preferred a season of ‘consolidation’ or having a go and actually seeing their team win something. Ask Spurs fans if it was worth an abysmal season to win the Europa League last season - my best mate is a spurs fan and it’s his best memory in his 36 years following them… what’s my best memory? Scoring late equalisers against the kopites and occasionally getting more points that 15 or so other teams?

Football is a game we watch for entertainment and to feel part of something - why wouldn’t we try and win everything in front of us? The game at Anfield I thought we were the better team for at least the second half and I didn’t mind us losing whilst having a go and playing with maximum effort and some pride. Going out to a wolves second string and not even trying until 60 mins is unacceptable

I didn’t hate the line up personally. I think the players that came in really let Moyes down. They ranged from diabolical (McNeil, Travers) to mediocre (Dibling). I think the manager would have expected better.
Absolutely Agree.

I saw the lineup and thought we would win comfortably, as I thought all of those players who came in will be absolutely chomping at the bit to show the manager why they should be in the starting line up ahead of the incumbents on any given Premier League Weekend.

Instead, they played like first division players whose only pleasure in life was playing darts on a Saturday evening at their local pub to get away from the wife.

Incredibly disappointing.

It’s not just about a failure to progress in the cup ‘tho, with a shrug of the shoulders and an Everton that.

Players like Branthwaite have got every right to want success in their careers. Same goes for potential signings.

Results like last night, make us unattractive to both.
Exactly, unless we are trying to win things then what even is the point? Either go out to win cups which will give us leverage to sign better players to win more cups or just pack it in altogether, There's 30 year olds going around who haven't seen us win a thing, I'm 43 and have seen us win not much but I've seen cups being lifted, the feeling that this brings is absolutely brilliant, I was 13 when we last won the FA cup and being from Ireland many of my friends were Manchester united fans, I was king of the world that day, how are we going to get young people to support us when they never get to experience that feeling and every year they see us putting out the reserves in cup games and getting knocked out early by teams we should be beating. No wonder Liverpool fans laugh at us.

The side he picked should have won that game, simple as that. Yes it was weaker than our best XI, but the best XI could have, and did, come on anyway. The rotated players were awful. I mean Wolves were absolutely shocking let's make no mistake there.

Theoretically yes, we should have won even with all the changes, but in all honesty, they were shocking and still comfortably beat us.

I'd be happy that he prioritised the cup. We all want success but it's far less likely to come when Moyes picks teams like he did last night. We could win the next 3 league games from now and I wouldn't even be bothered. I want big cup nights at BMD, I want days out at Wembley.
Too right, we for far too long have only had some happiness from beating Chelsea, Arsenal or United. When teams like Palace and Brighton do it on regular. I remember on Radio City phone in after we lost to Fiorentina, some fella arguing with Sharp, saying we shouldn't be happy with side as we had more than enough chances to win. We have too many fans who accept bare minimum.

Nothing wrong with giving fringe players a game but you should only change 5 players maximum in my opinion and have a functioning left hand side would of helped too

On and on and on about that Wolves loss in that stupid competition which was made compulsory to enter when top clubs made it clear they don't want it. Forget it. F...it and concentrate on the league to get as high a position as this deficient squad can take us. With crucial additions in January we should be looking up not down. Next season play the youth team.

To everyone saying play your strongest side.

How else do we give minutes to our bench?

How else can you rest guys like Gana and give Pickford a (much needed) mental break

And, let's face it, it's not like we played what we would have expected to perform as absolute slop out there. Some of the guys we started were starters last season.

We fielded a side fully capable of winning that game. Especially with our strong bench that could have come on and won it in the second half.
