A HANDICAP SYSTEM PERHAPS?

Not sure a salary cap will work - you can give a player 30k a week, but then give him a big signing of fee (so a player could be on 200k per week with his signing on fee).

Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, City & Arsenal have now fixed the league so they will always get the most money - a rich owner could come along and but another team but not spend as much as he likes.

to be the best, we've actually got to be the best imo wheteher that means our squad was £500m or £50m, wouldn't be a worthy champion if you win because of a points handicap.

football needs a massive salary cap to keep the sport being sane and competitive, it's in a poor state atm on the competitive front, but it does seem to be improving.

1. Pretty sure a salary cap would be immediately thrown out by the courts.

2. Had a handicap points system been in place this season, Liverpool would be champions, so be careful what you wish for.

Nobody at the top wants a fair playing field. Even Mr Premier League himself said it was bad for the league United not doing well so it's wishful thinking that anyone would view this as we do.

I would say that each individual league has their own salary cap based on the affordability of 2/3 of the competitors in that league.

No cap for European competition so if you want a team of superstars you can but some of them can only play European games and the clubs have to decide who they are going to use during the league campaign with a squad of 25 and a salary cap of say £100m for the Premier League.

We'll see how many players would like to sit around on high wages whilst the league is in progress and only playing midweek European games.

It will put the richer clubs on the back foot as there will be more competition at league level and if they failed to qualify for Europe, they won't want a raft of players on 4 and 5 year contracts with no games to play.

No chance of it happening though.

I'd like to see a salary cap system but where maybe 3 players were exempt from counting against it, so the likes of Real Madrid could theoretically still have their 'galacticos' but realistically only 3. Never gonna happen though, and would be a nightmare to implement if they tried

I'd hate it.

The whole club wins the leagues, cups etc. Clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd deserve the head start they have because they've been ran better. Financial doping, I.e. Chelsea and City is a bit crap too and should come with reasonable limits.

Only thing that I'd like to see a limit on is squad sizes, including loans, to stop the game becoming a farce.

I usually do a bet on Everton to win the handicap league in the betting shop we usually get around 20 points, every team is 15-1 but all get different points to start with. Keeps the season interesting as we generally do ok. We were joint champions with L'pool this season as goal difference doesn't count.

couldn't ever see it happening but knowing our luck it'll happen the season we get took over by a billionaire.

yup, west brom playing swansea on the last day for the title would be great for your average serious footy fan but a nightmare for sky and the money men.

A salary cap that's properly implemented like the nfl would be the best idea I think
I personally think salary caps, along with a salary structure and all properly governed, would be the best way forward.

The wealthier clubs would still attract the top players, however I think the simple lure of 'a massive contract' would be more evenly spread out among clubs and therefore create a more level playing field.

I acknowledge that this idea also has it's faults, but would be more effective than a toothless and unenforced FFP rule.

No to a handicap for me I'm afraid, but I would be happy with player restrictions like a certain number of home grown talent in the starting eleven, salary structure, salary cap. Even open to the possibility of being able to allow 2 or 3 players per team to be exempt from the salary cap.

Bad idea, mainly because in 3 years time we're going to be so über boss that it would mean we'd have to start every season with -15 points just so the likes of City and Liverpool have a chance to keep hold of our coat tails
