A Defence for Koeman?

Absolutely madness to call out Koeman after a few bad results against Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd...and replace him with big Sam or meltface...is this a joke? Koeman got 7th last season and this is 5 games into his 2nd season. People would sack a manager who lost a couple of games against Sky6 just wow.

I meant Tuchel and Unsworth mate :) .

You're welcome mate, and as with everyone else I appreciate you taking the time to read it and comment.

My intention is certainly not to convince people he should stay, I think there are some genuine concerns. How do you think he compares to previous managers, such as Martinez or Moyes? Have you ever wanted Everton managers sacked before? What can he do to turn it around for you if anything? Who would you like to see being brought in to replace him?

I'm very much on the fence. But I've been burnt by the two previous managers who at different times I was heavily behind and in both cases I was probably too uncritical, so trying not to give Koeman such an easy pass!
I don't understand the statement about Rooney. Although I didn't want him back I think he has done ok and he works hard and has scored our only league goals.

Because shoehorning other players out of position to accommodate what feels like an almost undroppable Rooney isn't worth it as it hinders our overall play.

I do not want to see Gylfi out wide because we're playing Rooney at no10, personally

Koeman is being handicapped by our failure to get a centre forward to replace Rom and a pacy left sided centre half that would allow us to play with a higher line. Whether he is in part responsible for that, is open to debate. What cannot be denied though, is Martina shouldn't have been brought to the club and klassen (although a nice footballer) was not needed, especially with Rooney and siguardsson who can play the same role better. Yes it's been a poor start (we partly expected it due to the fixtures) however what is not excusable is the standard of football and lack of fight within the team. I'm expecting a big improvement starting tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more. Would love to see siguardsson in the 10 role behind DCL and Sandro. Both have excellent movement and siguardsson is the man to exploit that. Sadly it looks as though he's going to be shifted out wide, which negates his qualities.

To be fair I am starting to warm to Klaassen and think he will come good overall, however we will likely sell McCarthy and maybe even Besic in the next window or two which rings further need for Davy in terms of squad depth.

I agree mainly though it should've been either or between Klaassen and Gylfi.

The thought of millions of football fans around the world who watch European football seeing Everton getting absolutely smashed haunts me though

Rooney may as well play striker if Koeman decides to play him. I'd rather have six men in the midfield than a huge gap in the middle because Wayne couldn't bear to not have possession for five seconds and decided to vacate his position.

I think you'll find there's more to it than that mate. We have created the least amount of chances out of any club in the league, which is derisory for a team with our ambitions.

I think koeman still hasn't done anything of note at everton, ok he finished 7th, thats ok and an improvement on Martinez but surely that's where we should be finished every season isn't it at least? He got knocked out in both cups early too.

It is also many fans opinion that he doesn't get Everton and i still share that belief. Plus he didn't get a striker, whether that was his fault or not he needed to make it clear that this was Absolutelty essential.

He needs to win a lot of games now and the signs are there that he won't. I actually think there's a good chance Bournemouth will win tomorrow.

Very enjoyable read and not much to disagree with in the content.
I am of the opinion that our defense is playing crap because they are seeing the opposition come at them more than last season. This is driven by us giving the ball away so cheaply in the final third. Also explains Schneiderlin issues, in that he is not really a DM and gets found out when over pressured defending. The possession stats and heat maps don't lie we get to the final third and rather than create a chance we seem to lose the ball and start another attack. Some of our better performances have come where we expect least from our forwards. I am not confident about tomorrow.

So reports suggest we offered €75 million for Costa. Imagine if it were true and we'd got him. Imagine....
I really hope it's not true. If it is it shows the utter shambles that was that window, cos we were never going to get him in a million years.
It is too early to say get thee gone Ron, but I'm badly ticked off wi H him at the moment. His instincts are all wrong. The only time he's got enervated is when that stupidars at OT made a lame barb about top four. Cool as a cucumber when watching the lamest start to a season I can remember, having spent like a drunken sailor, and only pipes up when one of his fellow 'elite' make a comment. Four no tens, and no striker or left back. The guy is a complacent arrogant tool

...I think there's reason to give Koeman more time.

He's managed an amazing transformation of the squad he inherited given the time he's been here. The reality is, he's only had this window to get players in. He needs more to see how the purchases perform and bring others in to get the right blend.

Also, he has a history of very poor spells but his teams inevitably turn their season around. Hopefully this is another instance of this but it's something he needs to address if he wants to manage a successful team. This is now Koeman's team and it's only right he's being held to account.
