A Change in Strategy?

a decade or so ago our youth set up was not producing the break through talent ?or enough break through talent compared with other clubs in the top flight, we missed out on so many stars, how many local lads broke through at that shed across the park that where childhood blues too many, now the tables have turned with the likes of Rooney, Osman, Hibbert, Rodwell, Gosling, Coleman, Duffy, Vaughen, Anichebe and now we have a que forming with years of talent ready to emerge the likes of Garbutt, Ross Barkley and Bidwell, Shkodran Mustafi and with luck Bob schepers and others both local and those that now look at us as the best set up to start their careers, Moyes is building the Everton of the future while those that run that shed across the park have lost the plot this is going to be a great season/Decade COYB

Well.... We have had a number of good players coming through the youthsystem earlier as well, perhaps not as many as now but Jeffers, Ball, Branch & Cadamarteri all were potential "stars" when they came out from the system relatively close to eachother. Then their careers took turns for the worse. And we have bought in youths earlier as well that was supposed to become big in a few years, but their careers stalled and they were sold or let go after a few years.

Of those you mentioned there's really only Rooney, Osman, Hibbert & Rodwell that has made a big impact. Gosling, Vaughan & Anichebe have the potential and have showed in glimpses what they are capable of, but unfortunately not the consistency needed.

But regarding the topic here I think Moyes had to work with a small squad when he arrived since he had to get rid of all the old players that had gathered here during Smith. So many were let go and only a few were brought in, so it's no wonder the squad diminished. Now he have had time to gather a squad consisting of his players and he has meshed them into a tight family, so now he can start to increase that family by adding some cousins and kids to make the family bigger. I just hope a few of those relatives take the step to become fullfledged members of the beloved family that is our A-team.
