7th -> EL what does it take

I remember that we did not get five spots for CL when Chelsea won, for example. In fact, didn't 4th that year get robbed of the cl place? Not sure how that is going to work with the EL spot though

I'm now a little bit confused with how the euros slots work so can someone please fill me in.

Start of the season: 1st-4th CL / 5th & 6th EL

With United winning EFL Cup and a top 4(?) team winning the FA Cup that would mean 5-7th gets EL right?

And what happens if say United finish Top 4 AND win the EL? Does that give us 5x CL spots and 6-7th get EL?
Too many variables here atm. ManU winning the cup was a necessary thing for us to get there so it was good thingy...Lets just push on.

Just confirmed my own question, that was Tottenham in 11/12 who got robbed of the cl place
Just to throw a spanner in the works it may be different for winners of EL. Vaguely remember reading somrwhere but dont quote me. If MU win EL and dont finish top 4 then think we have 5 in CL and 2 in EL. Happy to be proved wrong.

I think 4 is maximum number of CL spots how ever you look at it

Wrong mate, they changed the laws allowing a country to have an extra spot in the CL should a team win the CL or EL and not qualify for the CL by league position.

In that instance one out of the three EL spots is lost to a CL spot meaning the hard limit these days is 7 in European competition.

It appears bluestevon is sort of right here. Here's the description of the complete flustercluck that the table and the qualifications turned out to be like in the 11/12 season. Note Swansea won the fair play award but appearantly did not play in europe the following season, no idea why

Additionally, Chelsea won the EL in 2012/13, but finished 3rd, hence their entry through the EL victory was void and the regular top 4 qualified. So, that seems to be the case with united as well, if they happen to finish in the top 4 and win the EL.
