6 + 2 Point Deductions

Apparently their breach wasn’t close. And Johnson’s fee will have to cover all
The players they’ve bought the last 2 years. For their amortisation payments
Wel they obviously have other income streams, it’s not all about that deal. But let’s hope they have obliterated the limit.

I think they are comfortable the extra profit they made by waiting (and guaranteeing them a breach) will see them right for the next cycle. They haven’t denied anything or claimed “shock and surprise”. They’ve calmly come out and said it’s been tricky adapting to PL accounting will cooperate to come to a fair resolution as swiftly as possible. PR bollox, but doesn’t feel like the sort of press release you send if you’ve dug an £80m hole that will see you breach for the next few cycles.

Basically no-one has any idea at all what our breach or their breach is until it’s confirmed. Which is half the problem. Needs to be based on more concrete numbers that aren’t affected by different accounting treatments. Allowable spend is £X multiplied by goals conceded would spice it up. Like a Formula 1 reverse grid.

They have nailed us easily though as they were determined too - but not City ? How is that on a level playing field ?
Because their level of incompetence and inability to set out rules and regulations and the punishments for not adhering to them means City can basically ignore the charges

its a fair point but in some senses negated by the fact we had a bizarre 94-95% wage to income ration and that has had to be massively cut, Dont think any other team was anywhere near that percentage IIRC. However we have worked hard with the Lord and Masters at PL to get on top of this and it is now much lower, you would expect them to take this into account as we abided by and worked with them to get slightly back on track.

our finances are a real mess, no doubt but we held our hands up and "knuckled down" yet they have imposed the harshest penalty for working with them???

Like another poster said yesterday, its almost like the rules are fit for purpose and then a made up rationale(yet to be disclosed) decided our penalty.

as far as s/show go, this is right up there
Should be "Arent" typing angry lol

So are they saying we continued to ignore their warnings despite this.

Not gonna be as simple as that as I think the biffs that run the league have made a pigs ear out of it. I bet by the end of the season you won't know who's gonna go down when you look at the time line they've proposed.

This hearing we'll get a response by mid Feb apparently.

Forest and us hear about the new breaches in April. Then an appeal which gets a response end of 24th May...which is 5 days after the league finishes.

Either way...I think a team goes down pure by the Premier League rather than being the worst team
The so-called independent commission will at that point not be deciding so much the points deductions but effectively which team stays up or goes down. This must really all get resolved well before the season ends. How can they build a process in which nobody knows who is up or down after the last ball is kicked. Farcical indeed.

The only way that possibly happens now based on their timetable is if neither us nor Forest appeal our punishment for the more recent charges. If the PL want to avoid relegation being decided after the last match they will have to bend to a negotiated settlement to avoid appeals.

A team will get relegated based rules that will be defunct by August next season.

The select committee have it bang on to say it's a mess.

Can’t see any way that the optimum outcome occurs, where we prove the whole system is rigged, unbalanced, uncompetitive, with incomplete guidance and incomplete penalty definitions. Thats probably the only way we get all points back. Every team that in the last three years sold a player they’d rather keep, or baulked at a purchase they desperately needed to avoid relegation/qualify for Europe would go crazy as it was all for nothing. No IC would have the balls to invalidate 3 years of historic results due to some clubs complying with discredited rules, and others breaching.

It’s going to take some negotiation over penalty and agreement over PR presentation to help everyone save face whether we like it or not. Thats bound to involve us taking some pain.
There is also the possibility of relegated clubs from last season waiting to pounce after the results of the appeal are known.
A significant reduction in the scale of the points deduction will have them on the phones to their lawyers based on the secret meetings they had with the PL last year which seemed to indicate a prime face case for suing Everton.

It’s a mess of the PLs own making and will generate more negative headlines for the brand and for employees such as Richard Masters.
