He''s in the spirit of the Commission report though, because the whole angle that they took is that "there is no precedent so we have latitude to do wtf we want and it'll still be 'right'".

Buckle up, lads. Conspiracy theory time. The Premier League harshly punished Everton with a deduction of 10 points knowing full well that it wasn't a fair punishment and expected there to be major pushback from the club/fans, a few key figures in media, parliament, etc. They will then back track after much push back and reduce the punishment to a fine and/or transfer ban. Why would they go through all of this you might ask? To save City and Chelsea from facing any sort of punishment when their charges come down the line. This is all just a dog and pony show from the league.

What you are missing is that transfers especially during a transfer window are extremely fluid. A club will be offered multiple players and will look to offload multiple players during any window. His role is to retrospectively implement accounting principles to any deals. It was Ingoe who highlighted the 3rd party issue to the Premier League. The biggest thing though is that West Ham signed Tevez and Mascherano in 2006. The Premier League didn't bring in 3rd Party ownership rules until 2007.

Yep. They are. Every one. Even an average Championship player would cost more than any business premises a large company would ever buy. No different than a player. Up front cash outflows, ongoing P+L implications through writedowns/depreciation/amortisation, tax implications, insurance implications (adding a £40m player would increase squad insurance). If an FD or CFO didn’t want to be involved in that they would be jettisoned immediately and spend the next 12 months on garden leave.

Aside from our magical “buy now pay later” contracts, most would involve a couple of million up front. Pretty sure a Finance Director “may” be involved in the days running up to that, moving funds, drawing down on revolver loan facilities, and then finally authorising the disbursement. You reckon Bill had a bag of cash in the bit of his car?

Not saying they are scouting players and have a veto on players they don’t fancy. Clearly not. But to suggest a board member specifically in charge of finance, will all the legal fiduciary duties that come with that, is not intrinsically involved in a multi million pound cash transaction that also locks in future years P+L charges (and potential profits) is just madness.

Part of that would be full sight of the contract. 100%

I personally have no interest in the West Ham bloke. Fair play to him if he grassed. Not overly bothered if he is on the commission, maybe he has the required experience. But the barrage of expertise being thrown around here has to be tempered when is bollox.

It's nothing to do with Sky, fully on Neville who has secured Sky Bet (which is Flutter now, nothing to do with Sky and hasn't been in a while) as a main sponsor.

Extremely clever bloke who has tapped into the crossover between 'fan channels' and TV - but he brings with it all the names and gravitas.

FWIW, Ornstein's said a few bits were cut out but on the bare face of it that's kind of been the PL's argument. It's flawed, and we all know it is, but their whole point was, if Everton hadn't overspent £19.5m, they'd have not had an advantage. And the IC agreed with them. Now we've got to show an Appeal Commission why that was wrong.
 

I see Mendy is now suing Man City for not paying him.

Isn't this highly relevant to the whole player X thing? I'm led to believe that the commission/PL had the opinion that we should or could have just terminated his contract a la City vs Mendy..

Is that correct?

The report suggests we did...

"Everton had signed Player X in 2017. Player X had proved to be a star player for the club. In July 2021 Player X was arrested. The FA suspended PlayerX from all football activity, making it impossible for him to perform his contractual duties. On 23 August 2021 Everton dismissed Player X. Everton sought advice on the possibility of suing Player X for breach of contract but elected not to do so."

... or maybe he really cares about Everton as his whole family are Evertonians (I believe he's an Evertonian too / not the Sky persona Red-Carra vs. ManU-Nev BS). We need every voice we can get, mate. It's a cynical way to look at life, if you assume everyone has an agenda.
Btw if anyone would gain most from City getting done, it's Man United (charges from 2009-2018).
