5 Substitutions

Go back to a first eleven plus one sub.

I remember in the good old days, when we called it football and not soccer, which was short for association football, we used to all crowd on the terraces and after a pie and a pint, which you could get for 40p, you’d be full of pith and vinegar, ready to play a full 90 minutes plus extra time, which in those days, we called overtime but not the kind you got paid for……

We all know that the FA, Premier League, UEFA & FIFA will bend over backwards for the richer clubs. If they say jump, those organisations will say "How high and can I suck you off when I come back down".

However, this rule itself is a drop in the ocean compared to the closed shop they are wanting and nearing completion. In one regard, it might actually be good for the smaller clubs with better academies, if managers are brave enough, a team might need to be 3 up with 10 to go or something to make sure it doesn't backfire but the option will be available to them.

We will see.

It'll be interesting watching managers figure out ways to maximize this. It is going to fundamentally change things like adding subs in rugby union did I think.

It sucks for the sport though. Doing this within the confines of some kind of system of competitive balance would be whatever but now you're going to have it tilt even further. Talent will be even more consolidated.
Rugby Starters and Finishers .. yuk!

Just takes an extra element out of the game and that is a players physical endurance which could often level things out a bit towards the end of a game and give a player with less skills or ability the chance to be more competitive on another level.

Rugby is much different to Football though so we'll have to see but I can see the bigger clubs with stronger squads scoring more late goals as their "finishers" are better than the opposition starters or finishers depending who is on the pitch.

Terrible. Game is dead, other than the love of Ev I could not care less about football and i used to be able to watch any game/league and know a fair bit about each team and players. Now I dont know half the players in the PL.
If you go down the leagues mate, its really really good! More like what it used to be in the 90s!

I think that will change over time though as football triccles down, but league 1 & league 2 are an excellent watch at the moment

We had 2 academy players in our squad of 18 in our last league game.....Anthony Gordon & Harry Tyrer!

They aren't adding more to the substitute bench! It just means once we have used our 3 subs of Townsend, Gomes & Mykolenko, we can then brin on Alli & Rondon

This is my point of it!

I see Hassenhutll is happy with it!
The guy who purposely gets a player to go down injured between 60-70 minutes so his players can take a breather & an energy supplement!

The game is moving way to far too the side of RAAAAH, leg it around like lunatics football! Players are getting recruited on athletic ability first before any sort of genuine quality!

Southampton who play the football adopted from Germany (like alot of other PL teams are now doing) are wanting there team to be full of footballing robots, sooped up on supplements and criochambered until there nuts are icicles, with 80% of preparation done in a lab!
Get your main 5 athletes to leg it around for there maximum of 60 minutes, than throw another 5 athletes on, while 2 designated f'ootballers' do the kicking of a ball.

Paul Scholes, Kevin Sheedy, Glenn Hoddle, Gazza, wouldn't of lasted 5 minutes in this league.

We will be seeing alot more Moussa Sissokho's playing in this league and alot less Moussa Dembele's

Oh yeah, it certainly isn't nailed on that this is a benefit, well it is a benefit but will managers see it that way. Maybe it will need a scenario where they are 3 up with 10 minutes to go so throw on a couple of youngsters to give them experience of being out there.

How likely that is, I don't know, maybe more so at certain clubs with managers who are prepared to give youth a chance. I do see Lampard, if we are going to look at ourselves as an example, as more prone to go to youth than some other managers, if given the opportunity.

It's back from next season:

Imho it is another nail in the coffin of football. The richer clubs will be bringing on half a new team of world class players, this aided by the 75% rule is just going to create a gulf between the haves and have nots.

Why are you complaining mate ? We can bring on our two reserve goalkeepers....it's all fair, Klopp has got his own way again.

Again, this is something that benefits the top clubs!

Its a misconception that you may get more minutes at a worse side! As you rightly say, after a few goals up and the game is won, larger clubs who are more likely to be ahead that way could have a James McAtee or Liam Delap on the bench, throw them lads on for 10 minutes.

Its easier for Jurgen Klopp to throw Curtis Jones or Harvey Elliott in the side at home to Watford as these lads will have Jordan Henderson & Fabinho schooling them through the game. 'Don't worry about it lad, we have you covered'. (Ross Barkley with Gareth Barry & James McCarthy is another good example).

Our group can barely look after themselves, never mind have the ability to help a younger player build his way into a side that is winning matches for fun.

Have they said who voted for and against this? Whilst there might be some small advantages to having 5 subs for teams outside the top bracket, I can't see past this being massively in favour of the teams with more quality in their squads.
