in the absence of any Parentheses the multiplication sum is done first in this case, if there was a 'division' in there as well then that would be the 1st sum to work out.
so, by the being a multiplication it essentially makes the 'sum' into
40+40x0+1
= 40 + (40 x 0 ) + 1
= 40+0+1
= 41
so, by the being a multiplication it essentially makes the 'sum' into
40+40x0+1
= 40 + (40 x 0 ) + 1
= 40+0+1
= 41
