4-4-2

Moyes had it spot on with the personnel he had at his disposal.

4-4-1-1 with Cahill off the tireless worker up top, whether that had been Bent, Johnson, etc.

You play a formation to suit your players, not your players to suit a formation.

4-2-3-1 has never worked for us & never ever will so long as we are unable to bring in players of the ilk of Hazard, De Bruyne, Mane, Martial, Eriksen etc to buzz around a first class CL striker.

I like 352 but we ain't got a capable left back/lwb so it's not an option.

Although anyway for the bantz.....

Pickford
Coleman Keane Holgate Mangala Cuco
Gana Davies
Siguurdson
Cenk Walcott

Tha could work with Garbutt on the left. Eases his defensive responsibility, where he’s more likely to get found out & gives him the opportunity to play to his strengths.

There was a great goal scored by the U23s the other night when our GK hoofed the ball down field , the big No 9 Hornby leapt and headed it on and his partner No 10 Sambou picked up the knock on , turned his defender , shot and scored. Obviously a different level from the PL , but the message is not a difficult one to understand - if your tactic includes hoofing the ball to a big striker , by passing midfield , then you need someone alongside him feeding off his knock downs, unless you have someone like Lukaku who can hold it up. If you are going to persist with a single striker then he needs to be fed the ball with runners coming from midfield to support him. I fear that before long we will reduce Tosun to a lonely isolated figure without support and being labelled not up for the PL.

Works with Garbutt... nothing works with Martina - he can't even take throw-ins. How he is at our club keeps me up at night!

Simple

He's here because his mate Koeman decided to give him a nice pay day

Martinez did the same with Alcaraz

Jobs for the boys

I still can't believe some on here defended either signing. It's blatant what they both were from the off. Now we're stuck with him

It's not even his fault at the end of the day. The blame lays with koeman

And we have another 2 1/2 years of him draining £35,000 per week from us.

There's a very good reason the vast majority of top sides don't play this system anymore - it leaves you vulnerable in midfield

Leicester are the example of a side who made this work in the last few years, but they had Kante in midfield who was covering superhuman amounts of yards and Vardy and (in particular) Okazaki up front who never stopped running and the defending from the front enabled them to get back into their solid shape

It's not impossible, but it's actually not easy to get this to work anymore as the top sides are able to play through you with the extra man in midfield

There aren't many examples at all of top sides playing with two strikers anymore and it's because tactically it leaves space in other areas of the pitch to exploit
