Under 18 game.......sounds like a cracker....
Typical thou with the reff favouring the r/s....
The Academy derby ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Finch Farm.
Everton had been leading 3-1 but a scrambled Liverpool goal, a red card and a last minute equaliser meant the Blues had to settle for a point.
A fiery encounter saw Liverpool take the lead in the 7th minute. Everton failed to clear a corner properly and Gary Mackay-Steven was able to lash the ball past Lars Stubhaug in the Everton goal.
Chances were few and far between in what was a scrappy game, but Everton were level at 14 minutes. Liverpool goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis slipped when attempting to clear the ball, leaving Kieran Agard the simple task of slotting the ball into an empty night.
The remainder of the first half saw Liverpool have the best of the chances. Alex Kacaniklic drilled a low cross from the left that had to be smothered by Stubhaug with Reds' striker Marvin Pourie lurking, while visiting captain Steve Irwin was fortunate to escape a booking for a snappy challenge on Everton's Daniel Redmond.
The second period began with both teams having chances to take the lead. Jose Baxter went close for Everton in the 51st minute, while Pourie shot wide for Liverpool from close range barely a minute later.
Everton though were gifted the lead in the 53rd minute when Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala spectacularly lobbed his own goalkeeper from the edge of the box after failing to deal with a long ball.
Liverpool had chances to regain parity, but another goalkeeping error allowed Everton to extend their lead. Bouzanis' kick found the head of Agard, who played in Lewis Codling. Codling twisted and turned on the edge of the box before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Hughie McAuley's side had a great chance to get back into the game when a penalty was awarded for James McCarten's foul on Nathan Eccleston. Pourie stepped up to take the kick but Stubhuag kept it out.
From the resulting corner however, a scramble ensued that saw Ecclestone eventually prod the ball home. Tempers flared thereafter when McCarten, who was booked in the penalty incident, was given a straight red card for his part in a goalmouth scuffle.
Everton's 10-men were resolute in the face of heavy pressure from Liverpool's 11, but in the last minute Liverpool substitute Michael Collins equalised after good work from Shane O'Connor to give the visitors a share of the spoils.
The future loks bright, we have some of the best kids around.
