2017-2018 Fixture List

If we'd not hit meltdown in the middle of last season we would have challenged top 4. If we reach the post Christmas level we did last season early on and add in new signings then we could be set for a great season.

Absolutely delighted with that..

We've drawn the "Liverpool (2016)" card with really tough opening games against sides who might not be up and running. Certainly prefer that to the last 3 or 4 years of promoted sides on Day 1.

Obviously the Kopite Fixture Maker thought it would be fun to once again deny us a Christmas home game and then deny us the extra income from a full house with a game against, oh let's say, Brighton. So we get Man U on January 1st... or 2nd... or 3rd

But at least this season we will see some meaningful fixtures at the end of the season:

No more dodgy run ins with relegation fodder

City play United, Spurs. Chelsea v Liverpool. United play Arsenal.

And we get to go to the West Ham Relegation Wake on the final day of the season!!

I actually like this start. Get the worst out of the way, maybe take a few scalps, gain some momentum, dish out some damage. After all, we're starting early in the EL and Koeman has time to get our players champing at the bit, right.

Definitely some incentive to get the transfer business done as soon as possible. And if we can pull off a win or two and grab a couple draws it could be the confidence boost and momentum to really make some noise

We are going to have to play all of these teams anyway.
We have no choice now but be up to speed straight away, it makes it all the more important to get the transfers done early and have the squad together for a full pre season.
Lukaku will hardly know that he has been away.

I would guess that no other team has a run of fixtures like that.

Would literally rather throw away our usual early season points playing top 4 away than to some no mark newly promoted team who play out their skin first week or 2 then hit relegation form once they've given us a bloody nose.

Having browsed the fixtures, 14th October when we travel down to Brighton 8 games in will be that game. They will have lost every away and will have fine form at home, they'll beat us or it will be 0-0 and after Christmas they will lose almost every game.

The only surprise last season was that other than us getting done in circumstances like that against Burnley, the RS also played them at the wrong time away.

Yeah I just remember the likes of Norwich (twice), QPR giving us tough opening day games where we dropped points only to then see them being spanked for 4 or 5 by most people in the middle of the season. We tend to have started better when we have tougher first games.

Worst case scenario, terrible start with few (I refuse to say no) points - at least we've got three of the (on paper) toughest fixtures out the way...
