From an Everton supporters point of view....

Would you celebrate Everton winning the Europa Conference League?

The league Cup has history, plus we've never won it so yes, I'd like to get that under our belt.

What we're describing here is the Simod Cup or the FA trophy of Europe. 30 years ago we'd all be laughing at it as utterly worthless. Today we have the might of advertising and Sky (even the bbc) to big it up and brainwash everyone into thinking its something its not. I guess the people working there are not old enough to remember proper European competitions so to them its novel and new.

Great West Ham ... you won a competition in which none of the half decent sides in Europe competed. Sure its more than we've managed - but honestly if it were us and i were running the club I wouldnt even put the vase in a trophy cabinet.

The league cup has history, yeah sure, but let’s not rewrite history here.

First 10 years of the league cup featured no less than 6 non-top flight teams, and the big teams didn’t even choose to enter half the time. QPR won it as a third tier side, Rochdale made the final as a fourth tier side.

No competition starts with prestige, which includes the World Cup.

It’ll be very, very successful this competition, and I’m sure you’ll be buzzing if we ever win it!

It's the LDV vans trophy of Europe, it's adding more games which makes it more difficult for the teams lower in the prem to do to better in the league.

But you could see how much it meant to the players and the fans yesterday, so I would 100% go for it.

🤣

Any cup is worth winning and celebrating. But not the Intertoto - as you can see it’s not a cup so it doesn’t count on that technicality.

Anyway, as someone said earlier, they should have brought back the ECWC. Several in the pub last night also said so.
The cup winners are usually in the champions league these days. No one would want to drop a competition.

Really no. This is entirely different from the league cup. The league Cup is open to everybody and you have to be the best on that run to win it.

This europa whatever its called is open to solitary no-hopers from each league and has been won by a club near the bottom of one of them. Utterly meaningless.

Sorry I haven't bought into the hype.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course mate, but are sides really no hopers?

We’re no hopers, we have been in relegation fights for the last two seasons. The sides who qualify for the Conference League have done so on merit, why should be looking down on them?

Also for what it’s worth.

There have been two editions so far, and the sides who’ve reached the final were

Roma - 6th
Feyenoord - 3rd
Fiorentina - 8th
West Ham - 14th

Everyone can qualify for the League Cup, but if they big sides get their way, they don’t want to play in it, anyway.
Conference League has been a breath of fresh air for me, and long May sides get their nice opportunity for European Silverware.

Is it a joke of a tournament? Yeah. But then so is the Europa. It's "achievement" is diluted by other clubs being able to "drop down" in to that one.

Honestly tho, I'd celebrate the crap out of winning something. Never seen us win anything but the Florida Cup and that one Neville holds with the biggest "what am I doing here" look on his face.

Yes we're no hopers - I wish we weren't. But I'd hope we never qualify for this. You might just like seeing done different teams in Europe (like we used to before sky money ensured it was always the same few) - but it doesn't interest me at all since it's nothing more than a European head-patting participation cup. Could've been dreamt up by a primary school teacher ffs.

Would celebrate if we won it but I do think it's a stretch calling it a major trophy.

I expect any English side to go far in it each season, semi finals at least and a lot of English sides who take part in it should win it. Could see the likes of Brighton and Brentford win it in the coming seasons which will show that it's not a great competition.

The Europa League is still a 2nd rate trophy but I do think English sides will still find it hard to win that. But the Conference League, the financial disparity between English clubs and these smaller European Clubs will be far too great.

I find the comparisons to the old cup winners cup disingenuous...back then, when most players were domestic and the south Americans and Africans hadn't come over in large numbers, the various leagues were much more even. Ajax was a force to be reckoned with for example.or cska Moscow. We've compensated for the comparative uneven nature of the various leagues by allowing the 7th best English team in yes, but let's bot forget the premier league is the best league in the world, and only the Spanish league rivals it at all...perhaps the German, but probably not. It is just different now.
