Everyone knows about the new premiership TV deal, which on average to the teams in the premiership will generate an extra £25m per year.

The extra windfall of cash definitely puts us in the green, each year we was barely breaking even, now we have an extra £25m per year! This is huge for a club like us right now, our players wages are handled well and we have also cut alot of top earners at the club recently Arteta, Cahill, Yakubu, Rodwell. We may not have the whole £25m to spend on players but surely 50% of that.

Leroy Fer was hotly tipped to join Everton before the medical farce for a rumored £8m, it was clear to see we had excess money from the Rodwell transfer and the new premiership deal would of been taking into account.

There has been much talk and controversy over Martinez first signing Kone, who will be 30 in November and the fact that most of our first team are 30+ or approaching 30. Yes we all would want a 22-24 year old striker to of been signed, but if your expecting to sign a striker that age with bags of quality for £5m it just aint gonna happen. Kone was signed for £8.1m at the same age back in 2007.

Martinez is obviously looking for quality and someone to come in now and act on the squad immediately. We have the best Everton squad we have had in years and yes if it stays together we have that squad at its peak for another 2-3 years max. So martinez is obviously aware of this and probably his own job too, so he his adding quality right now to a squad at its peak.

Everton have a small window of opportunity to act on the league now under this current squad and fire power is a necessity. Kone can also play off the strikers and on the wing, he gives us another dimension with pace up front and flair. Thats now 3 totally different strikers we have, Anichebe the young powerhouse, Jelavic the one touch poacher and Kone the pacy and creative forward.

£5m can be deemed as quite alot but its a necessity to bring in a forward now who can score goals and give us a different attack of play. As well as Alcaraz who will be on a free, experienced center back would be ideal for Martinez to bring in and give Bobby a chance to assess the youth team and the next breed...

...Which is the new policy of Everton "promote within" Martinez has made it clear he wants to bring players in from the youth set up, which he did with Wigan. Moyes to be fair looked as though he did but he only really brought in players when he absolutely needed too (injuries, suspensions, friendlies, 87+ sub). Martinez will have to be given time to assess all the players we have so the short term goal is focused on bringing quality players in now.

£25m extra a year, we now have Kone added to the strikeforce and we now have strength in depth up top. If Alcaraz is signed that will mean midfield will be the next bet and a GK. I dont know why we let john Ruddy go that easy and Phil Neville does need replacing as well as we need more quality in midfield and strength in depth. Our problem last season was we had no-one to come off the bench and change the game or replace important players through suspensions and injuries. Also Naismith and Oviedo have the least effect on this squad, why did we need them in the first place or how can they fit in to Martinez' new style of team?

On a whole Kone is a good signing, we have extra money to spend now, we need to promote from within and we need more quality in midfield.

SUPPORT AND BELIEVE!

I do admire your optimism but the whole post is flawed as it does not take into account that the people who run our club are totally inept and what ever extra money the club receives will not filter its way back to the manager.

anno the level of optimism is through the roof

Don't get me wrong, we're in for a period of uncertainty, simply because Moyes was here for so long. It's hard to tell how things will pan out. Hopefully Martinez gets off to a good start to get the fans onside. Last thing we need is a whole lot of knee jerking if we have the kind of start we used to have under Moyes.

Probably helps if one's had two weeks in Blackpool mate ;)

marginal utility is the economoics term for the 25 mio quid having different importance for different clubs. Think a loaf of bread. It's marginal utility is WAY higher to a starving man than to Bill Gates.

Ah good point.

We better get the Kneejerk Reaction Thread back up to the forefront of the forum.

1 marquee signing without selling anyone... thats all we ask for. swansea can do it, why can't we?

They happily let Joe Allen go for 15m last season, Scot Sinclair to fill up the trained locally quota at City, and Danny Graham who is yet to score a competitive goal after New Year's Day for a now-hefty 5M. Don't see that as "not selling anyone".

I think to get a perspective on how the TV money should make a difference to transfers is to have a look at Swansea and Norwich.
Now Swansea certainly don't live outside there means yet are bidding big on players such as bony whilst also adding 2/3M signings here and there also. Norwich appear to be in for everyone, I'm sure deilia doesn't have a massive amount of cash to finance it!

We lose a bit every year which will need covering first but then after that we should have around 15M a season for investing in players. It makes little difference to the teams above, they have money anyway but to us is should be a big help!

what about the Rodwell and Arteta money, where did that go ? I can't think of any major (player) investments since those lads were sold.

Rodwell money went on Mirallas, oviedo and stones. Arteta money the banks ( supposedly) but the rodwell money was defently spent,no arguments their... Arteta on the other hand...

Rodwells payments are from 12 going up to 17m as well so bear that in mind too
