Player Valuation: £6m
The above figures are the respective wage bills at Liverpool and Everton. Their wage bill is almost exactly twice as big as ours. Ours is a couple of million bigger than West Ham and Stoke.

Do we expect Stoke to win at a club paying almost £166 million annually? No. Why expect it of Everton?

We fondly cling to the idea that the two Merseyside clubs are equals in stature and importance. They're not. Liverpool are a far bigger and better resourced outfit than we are and tough though it is for us to admit it they will remain so. We need to stop obsessing about them and start to accept reality.

It's a fair excuse. They've been investing title challenge money for years and pay huge wages. But it's nothing more than an excuse. We've beaten and battered them with teams that cost a fraction of theirs as have others.

No the real reason the derby is uncompetitive, is because we have a bunch of spineless jellyfish who have for some reason, over the last few years, developed an unexplainable inferiority complex against a team, that in itself, is no great shakes anymore. And as soon as we all collectively, fans and players, realise this, and treat those irrelevant scrotes with the contempt they deserve and not feed their ever dwindling need for top ups of their own self importance... The sooner we can get back to dining at the top table and let our next of kin see that it's not all a chore supporting the blues and we aren't chatting bubbles, about our historical pride in the royal blue shirt and they will also experience how we used to all feel before we accepted this mediocrity!!!

Rant over... lol

It's an excuse but a poor excuse. We've had better teams on paper quite a lot but they bottle it time and time again.

A few of the goodison park draws over the last few seasons we should have won but haven't. Wage bills can be used over a season but for a single fixture the players should be up for i disagree.

It's not an excuse mate but it does explain the long term trend. We have the 7th biggest wage bill an are 7th. Not so much a coincidence as a working out of cause and effect.

Yeah, overall for league performances that's fair, and has been for some time. But this game should be like a Cup Final for the lads, their blood should be boiling all week. We're like little lambs stuck in the knife to a gunfight Moyes derby syndrome. He's done a lot of damage to us that will be hard to scrape away.

Hang on, the original poster has got a point.

A few injuries and we don't have the depth of squad to cope.

We need to spend more to get better quality and greater depth. That would help our cause no end.

It's also true that at the moment we are not mentally strong enough to compete with the 'top 6' on a consistent basis.

RK needs to address this when drawing up his list of potential signings.
We need winners with strong characters and mental toughness. If needs be we have to pay top dollar to get what we need.

At the moment we are just too nice.
