If he wasn't the most immobile player in the league, I would gladly take him back. He knew how to start a counter attack better than any of our midfielders.

I still think he could have offered something, a bit of intelligence in our midfield and couldn't possibly be worse than schneids

He does the dirty work really well and can link play together nicely.

Only problem is for that to work you need a team around you willing to move around, make themselves open for a pass and they need to try and put a bit of effort in themselves.

He is far from our biggest problem.

Magnificent tackle to start the move that led to Calvert-Lewin's goal. He was very good today, also he seemed to me to get a bit more forward when we were in possession.

No surprise he is starting to look better now those around him are showing more effort & movement off the ball.

He can never do his thing if he doesn't have those around him shutting off opponents options.

Still has a way to go to hit his first season form though.

...big test next week. Last season both him and Davies got caught the wrong side of Mane and Coutinho when they scored. No Barry that day, no Barry next week so we need to be disciplined in front of the back four. If we don’t patrol ‘between the lines’ they will stuff us.

Thought he played great yesterday. Everywhere putting his foot in stopping attacks. Distribution poor but defensively great.
