The GOT Book Club

After yesterday’s result, footie is starting to get on my tits a bit…
So I’ve been thinking, maybe it’s time to take up a new sport/recreational hobby:

I guess you’re never too old to be fitted for a full body traction cast! 😂😂😂

Yeah… Maybe I’ll just give it a read, lol.

So when we look up at the roofline in a quiet moment at the Hill Dickinson we're likely to see a familiar figure in midair?

My niece has asked for her birthday present one from the following authors.
Philip K Dick ; Isaac Asimov, Ursula Le Guinor, or a 'classic' sci novel. Any advice on the most popular novels by these authors !

For Asimov, Foundation has been mentioned (first 3 books are the classics, everything else in the series is poor). They were the books that got me into science fiction literature. For me I Robot is better and very much an author at his imperious best - he takes a wonderful idea and explores it thoroughly. Ignore the Will Smith film that has almost nothing to do with the book.

PKD ones mentioned probably best bet. I'm not a massive fan of his ideas or writing.

ULG I've only read The Disposessed which was decent but more and exploration of societal norms than hard sci fi (all depends what you're looking to get from reading sci fi).

Lots of classics kicking about but a gift much depends on what your niece is interested in. The classics of the genre stretch from light-hearted, anti-war satire in Slaughterhouse 5 to Cyberpunk in Neuromancer and everything in between. The early classic that surprised me was Day of the Tryffids - thought it was going to be silly, but it was genuinely tense.
