Wildlife in your Garden

Not actually in my garden, but while walking the dog this morning I saw a male Merlin.
I've only ever seen one once or twice before and not for many years.
Unfortunately I didn't have my camera and hadn't even taken my phone with me, which was a shame as I had a perfectly clear view of it for several minutes. 🤷‍♂️

Where did you see it mate, I`ve only ever seen one and that was flying like a low level bomber over Moorland in Cumbria !

I know they sometimes get seen around Hale shoreline in the Winter, hunting small waders.

Clock Face Country Park (former colliery site) St.Helens.
It was perched on a fence post and as I got closer it flew to another post about 30 yards on. It stayed there and I was able to get to about 30ft from it and watch for 2 or 3 minutes until it swooped off over the field.
I'm absolutely 100% convinced that it was a Merlin.
It was a superb looking bird. ;)

If it was the size a of Blackbird, it was a Merlin.

The only other falcon in the UK that small would be a Hobby and they`re migrants.

Maybe go back, as it may be hanging around if it`s found a food source ?

The one I saw in Cumbria was hunting down Swallows !

It`s still one of my all time great things that I`ve seen out in the wild.

I'll give it a rest now, but this is me looking out of the sliding door at my patio, those lines in the snow are from the lines in the concrete. These deer just wander next to my house without a care.
Been here a year now and I think they've realized now that there isn't a dog on the property any more.

….i’m sure i’m not alone in finding those images absolutely stunning, it looks a delightful spot to live.
