Non League Football

My local team Forest Green Rovers (Big Dunc managed them briefly) are now coached by Robbie Savage, and I have been pleasantly surprised so far. Quite positive football and he is really down to earth getting the team to interact with fans a lot. Hoping he continues to do well though it'll inevitably mean he moves on fairly swiftly.

Got a lad who Marine had for years, Kengni (famously hit the crossbar at 0-0 vs Spurs), who is probably my all time favourite Marine player.

Savage definitely likes it being all about him. Im amazed he parted from Smethurst, but fair play and good look to Kengni, hope hes having a boss season.

He does, but he's not arrogant about it. Has loads of time for people.

Will keep an eye out for Kengni. Don't get there too often but went the other week as they do this great initiative where they give free shirt and tickets to year three kids from local schools. Aimed at getting to get them into supporting them. Sadly I don't think my daughter was too bothered. Was a good day though and they held on to a win against Hartlepool.

Thornton Cleveleys v Colne last Saturday abandoned after 50 minutes with Thornton 4-1 up in the FA Vase 2nd round.

On a side note, I did my first in a series of articles in the match day program, paying tribute to legends of Thornton football over the last 45 years.

Stayed over after Wolves and went to Tamworth v Wealdstone, you’d be hard pressed to spot the difference in the quality between the two games. I met the ex-chairman of Wealdstone, who now lives in Northampton, in the pub and it turns out he knows a top class blue who I frequently meet at aways who’s been supporting EFC since the early ‘60s despite living in Northampton. Apologies for rambling but that was the highlight of my week 😂

Thornton Cleveleys v Steeton today in the NWCL Macron Cup.

Steeton won at Thornton in the league in earlier in the season 2-0 but I’m expecting a home win today.
Thornton put 5 past Maghull since and 4 past Colne last week before the game was abandoned.

After the game being abandoned 2 weeks ago when Thornton were 4-1 up in the fa vase, the replay last night saw Colne 2-1 winners with a last minute own goal giving them victory.

Football can be a cruel game.

A great crowd on last night though and a decent game too.

Did you go to the Boston game last night? Looked like a pretty dour affair but good result for Boston given Forest Green are absolutely flying.

I lived in Gloucester while working in Bristol for a few years. Went to Gloucester City v. Boston a few years ago in Cheltenham. Boston lost 3-0 and I almost got thumped for asking a Gloucester City fan whether they get Gloucester games chucked in for free if they buy a Cheltenham Town season ticket. It was a serious question, too, I wasn't being a prick.

Never did get around to seeing Forest Green (ended up going to the rugby most weekends) but my next door neighbour was a massive Green fan.

I didn't go, no. Don't get to games much as not got the time or money these days! Been going here and there since late 90's.

Gloucester can be quite rough and there's probably a big rivalry with Cheltenham so doesn't surprise me! They both hate FGR though since they were taken over by Dale Vince and he has chucked cash at the team!
